Kawasaki Ninja ZX-6R Launched In India: Revival Of The 600cc Supersport Segment
Kawasaki Ninja ZX-6R launched in India: Kawasaki has launched the Ninja ZX-6R in the Indian market at a price of Rs 10.49 lakh (ex-showroom). The Kawasaki Ninja ZX-6R is one of the motorcycles a track-day enthusiast has wet dreams about. The Rs 10.49 lakh price tag is just introductory and will only be applicable to the first batch of buyers. Kawasaki has stated that a change in price is imminent.
The motorcycle has won acclaim in international 600cc category races and is now officially on-sale in India. Kawasaki has revived the midweight supersport segment in India by launching the Ninja ZX-6R.
Bookings for the Kawasaki Ninja ZX-6R were being accepted by dealerships across the nation for quite sometime now and customers had to book the motorcycle by paying a token amount of Rs 1.5 lakh.
In recent times, India Kawasaki Motor has been aggressive on the pricing front and rumours in the grapevine were pitching the price for the ZX-6R to be at around Rs 10 lakh ex-showroom, but Kawasaki has priced it slightly higher.
The Kawasaki Ninja ZX-6R that has been launched in India is the recently redesigned model. Up front are all-new LED headlamps with the new Kawasaki design language taking prominence.
The fairing too has been redesigned and the motorcycle now comes with new decals and graphics. The Kawasaki Ninja ZX-6R is powered by a liquid-cooled, DOHC, 636cc, inline-four-cylinder engine with a maximum power output of 128bhp at a dizzying engine speed of 13,500RPM.
Peak torque output stands at 70.8Nm. A six-speed gearbox with quickshifter transmits power to the rear wheel. The Ninja ZX-6R features top-spec cycle parts and lots of electronics.
It is suspended by a big piston upside-down fork from Showa up front and a fully adjustable hydraulic monoshock at the rear, also from Showa. Braking duties are handled by dual 310mm petal discs with radially-mounted 4-piston monoblock brake calipers up front and a single 210mm disc with single-piston monobloc caliper at the rear.
It also features KIBS (Kawasaki Intelligent Anti-Lock Braking System) that makes the motorcycle stop quicker. The Ninja ZX-6R also features KTRC (Kawasaki Traction Control) which includes a three-stage traction control and two riding modes. For the Indian market, the 17-inch wheels are shod with Bridgestone Battlax S22 tyres.
Deliveries of the Kawasaki Ninja ZX-6R will begin in February 2019.
Thoughts On Kawasaki Ninja ZX-6R Launch In India
The supersport 600 segment has always been one that is avoided by all Japanese motorcycle manufacturers. This was due to various reasons which includes high import duties and low sales numbers. Now though, we have the Ninja ZX-6R which is one of the most desirable motorcycle in the segment.
Yes it does cost an awful lot more than the usual crop of 600cc motorcycles, but it is worth the money because it does have so much more to offer than the other 600cc motorcycles on sale today. This much-awaited launch could also give birth to a new 600cc category in the Indian National Motorcycle Racing Championship. It just might.
