Kawasaki Electric Bike’s Patent Images Leaked Online — The First Possible Kawasaki EV
Kawasaki Electric Bike: Patent images of new Kawasaki electric motorcycle leaked. The first electric Kawasaki motorcycle is in the works.
Kawasaki is one of the very few automotive brands in the world which has not done many experiments in the field of electric mobility. While major automakers are busy developing technologies to ensure sustainable growth in cleaner and efficient modes of transport, some haven't even made the slightest efforts to make a shift from the use of fossil fuels.
Now, the internet has managed to leak some fresh patent images of a possible Kawasaki electric powertrain. Could this shed light on the Japanese two-wheeler brand's first EV?
The images shared by Autocar India reveal a conventional naked motorcycle design rather than a wacky and out-of-the-world form usually associated with electric two-wheelers. However, this could just be a reference picture and can greatly differ if the project ultimately hits production.
The concept sports a fuel-tank-like structure and the battery seems to be hiding under it. An expert can also point out the oil-cooling system. At the front, there is some form of engineering that resembles a ram-air intake (probably a cooling duct for the battery pack and motor).
The second image shows the electric powertrain much more closely. From the flow-chart conveniently placed on the side, it is evident that there is a clutch assembly in the entire system.
It is quite unusual for an all-electric powertrain to have a clutch system (and hence, a transmission). Most electric vehicles have direct drives further assisted by various drive/output modes. In fact, adding a transmission system in an electric powertrain only complicates things.
As mentioned before, many automotive companies are researching and introducing various forms of vehicles using electric power. BMW Motorrad is also working on a hybrid boxer engine. This essentially means that we can expect a BMW R 1250 GS adventure motorcycle in a hybrid format in the not-too-distant future — read the complete details here.
Coming back to the Kawasaki electric motorcycle patent, not much is known at this point or could be assumed. Still, it is a fact that the future of the automotive industry revolves around electric transportation and vehicles will eventually sport some form of electrification.
Thoughts On The Kawasaki Electric Bike Patent Images
Patent images need not necessarily confirm the possibility of a future product, but instead, could be part of a project which may or may not lead to production. Electric motorcycles will play a major role in the automotive market at some point in time and we should wait a while to see if Kawasaki will contribute to this.
