Husqvarna Vitpilen 401 Spotted Testing On KTM Wheels & MRF Tyres: What’s Cooking?

The Husqvarna Vitpilen 401 has been spotted ahead of its launch in India. This is not the first time that the Husqvarna Vitpilen 401 has been spotted testing, but it definitely is the first time that the motorcycle has been spotted with KTM-sourced wheels and MRF-sourced tyres. The motorcycle is seen with a few other changes as well.

Husqvarna's debut in India was confirmed in 2018 with the swedish motorcycle manufacturer bringing in the Svartpilen 401 and the Vitpilen 401. The motorcycles have been spotted multiple times while undergoing camouflaged testing.

Now, the Vitpilen 401 has been spotted with a few changes as opposed to last time. Vitpilen means, 'White Arrow' in swedish and the Vitpilen 401 is based on the KTM 390 Duke. It uses the same chassis, suspension, brakes and engine as the KTM, but it is on the design front that it differs.

It features a neo-retro scrambler styling that is certainly trending these days. The design hasn't seen a lot of changes and the iconic headlamp design remains the same. However, there are a few other changes in the latest spy pictures.

The major change comes in the form of the BS-VI modifications. The exhaust downpipe and the catalytic converter designs have been changed. That could very well mean that, the motorcycle will be prepped from the very start for the BS-VI emissions norms that are set to be enforced from April 2020.

Also, the motorcycle comes with crashguards that have been taken off straight from the 390 Duke. The biggest change though comes in the form of wheels and tyres from KTM, and this was an unexpected move from Husqvarna.

The Husqvarna in international markets rides on wire-spoked wheels and high quality rubber. The test mules that were spotted in India earlier too rode on the same wheels. Now though, it seems as if things are taking a turn for the worse, especially in the sight of enthusiasts.

The Husqvarna Vitpilen 401 has been spotted riding on the wheels taken from the KTM 390 Duke. The wheels were still painted in the same signature KTM Orange colour. The most confusing bit is the tyres that the wheels were shod with. MRF-sourced rubber on a product that is going to be priced above the KTM Duke 390 is just unacceptable, unless Bajaj is trying to slot Husqvarna below KTM.

Thoughts On Husqvarna Vitpilen 401 Spotted Testing With KTM Wheels & MRF Tyres

Husqvarna will be positioned as a premium brand, over the KTM brand in India, or will it? If these changes are actually being considered for the production model, it shows significant cost-cutting measures.

The KTM 390 Duke comes with Metzeler tyres that are superior to the ones from MRF. They are not just superior, but are also much more expensive. If Husqvarna is positioned below the KTM, it would find a lot more buyers.
