Honda CBR 650R Sold Out In India: Bookings For The Motorcycle Put On Hold Temporarily

Honda Motorcycles and Scooters India (HMSI), has sold out the CBR 650R motorcycle in India. According to the reports from IAB, the dealers in the country have stopped accepting bookings for the mid-capacity sports bike.

The mid-capacity motorcycle was brought to the Indian shores through CKD (Completely Knocked Down) route, before it is assembled in the country. The Honda had launched the CBR 650R back in April 2019 with a price tag of Rs 7.7 lakh ex-showroom (India).

The CBR 650R in the country has been imported in limited numbers and features a BS-IV engine. However, we expect the upcoming iteration of the bike to feature a BS-VI complaint engine to comply with the upcoming stricter emission norms in the country deadlined for April 1, 2020.

Japanese two-wheeler manufacturer has also confirmed that they will be looking to release new models in the 300cc-500cc segment to the Indian market in the next 18 months. The company aims to take on Royal Enfield, which currently leads the segment with 85% market share.

The CBR650R is powered by a liquid cooled in-line four-cylinder engine producing maximum power of 87.1bhp at 11,500 rpm and a peak torque of 60.1Nm at 8,000rpm. The engine comes mated to a six-speed gearbox with slip assist clutch for smooth up shifts and downshifts.

The suspension duties on the motorcycle are handled by a Showa sourced 41mm upside-down forks at the front and an adjustable monoshocks at the rear. Brakes on the CBR 650R is handled by 310mm dual discs at the front, and a 240 mm single disc at the rear.

The design of the bike resembles the CBR 1000RR Fireblade with twin headlight cluster. The motorcycles feature full-LED lighting for headlamps, tail-lamps, and turn indicators as well. The CBR650R offers a host of information to the rider by featuring a seven-inch LCD unit instrument cluster. The safety on the motorcycle is further enhanced by Emergency Stop Signal activated by sudden braking to warn the nearby vehicles.

The driver aids on the motorcycle features Honda's Selectable Torque Control (HSTC) for Traction Control System and dual-channel ABS as standard offering maximum confidence to the rider.

Although the motorcycle was priced steep, Honda has managed to sell out the CBR650R completely in the country, should say something about the motorcycle being a complete package. Honda's future plan to introduce more models with heavy localization of their products in the country should further help the company to price their upcoming models aggressively.
