Honda CB Shine & CB Shine SP Launched In India With Combined Braking System
Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India has announced the launch of the updated CB Shine and CB Shine SP drum brake variants. Priced at Rs 58,338 and Rs 64,098 respectively, the new models are equipped with Honda's combined braking system and Honda has added this system as a safety precaution.
More than it being required to make the ride safer, it was required to make the models compliant with motor vehicle regulations set by the government that would be enforced from April 2019. Starting 01 April, 2019, all new two-wheelers sold in India will have to be equipped with ABS or CBS.
Motorcycles and scooters above 125cc need to be equipped with ABS while those below that can make do with CBS. The Honda CB Shine and CB Shine SP are both powered by a 124cc engine, hence falling under the latter category.
Both motorcycles also have disc brake-equipped variants which already come with CBS. Now, it is the drum braked variants' turn. The changes made to the models are limited just to the addition of CBS.
The motorcycles otherwise remain the same both aesthetically and mechanically. The Honda CB Shine and CB Shine SP are powered by an air-cooled, 124cc, single-cylinder engine. It has a maximum power output of 10.1bhp and a peak torque output of 10.3Nm and drives the rear wheel via a 4-speed gearbox.
A conventional telescopic fork takes care of suspension up front while twin shocks do the same at the rear. Braking duties are handled by 130mm drum brakes on both ends. If one opts for the disc brake variant, it comes with a 130mm drum brake at the rear and a 240mm disc up front. Both variants now come with CBS.
Thoughts On Honda CB Shine & CB Shine SP CBS
Honda and all other two-wheelers manufacturers in India would have to update their entire model range with CBS or ABS if they intend to continue retailing that particular model in India beyond March 2019. The Honda CB Shine is the best-selling Honda motorcycle in India and is therefore extremely important for the Japanese manufacturer.
Honda till now concentrated on the commuter motorcycle segment in India and has built a pretty strong customer base. The company is now setting its sight on the performance motorcycle segment and will be launching the CB 300R in India on 08 February, 2019.
