Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India launched the CB 300R in the Indian market at a price of Rs 2.41 lakh (ex-showroom). The motorcycle has been received well by motorcyclists across the nation and it could very well be the bump that Honda needed in the low capacity performance biking segment.
The Honda CB 300R competes in the extremely competitive 300cc segment with motorcycles like the Bajaj Dominar, KTM Duke 390, Kawasaki Ninja 400, Yamaha YZF-R3 and Benelli TNT 300 to go against.
The motorcycle features classy neo-retro styling that makes it stand apart from the breed of sharp-looking motorcycles in the segment. The Honda CB 300R comes loaded to the brim with features and even a few segment firsts.

Top Speed and Acceleration
Honda has not revealed official acceleration figures for the CB 300R, but has officially said that the motorcycle has the best torque-to-weight ratio in its class. Honda also claims that a distance of 200 metres is covered in just 9.2 seconds. At first, it may seem as if the Honda CB 300R is down on power, but coupled with the low weight, this is what the motorcycle is capable of.
The Honda CB 300R will accelerate from 0-100km/h in under 7.2 seconds and it will go on to touch a top speed of around 144km/h.
Engine and Power
The Honda CB 300R is powered by a liquid-cooled, 286cc, DOHC, 4-valve, single-cylinder engine. It has a maximum power output rating of 31bhp and a peak torque output of 27.5Nm. A six-speed gearbox drives the rear wheel.
Honda claims that the engine is free-revving in nature and works very well in real-world conditions. This could also be attributed to its low weight, as the engine would be able to deliver its power effortlessly.
Mileage and Fuel Capacity
Honda claims that the CB 300R has a mileage of 30.2km/l. This figure according to Honda has been arrived at after testing using the World Motorcycle Test Cycle (WMTC). That means, it is as close to real-world conditions as it gets. Under everyday usage then, the Honda CB 300R returns a fuel efficiency of 30km/l.
The Fuel Tank capacity of the Honda CB 300R is said to be 10 litres and this allows the Honda CB 300R to have a range of around 300 kilometres which is right up there with most touring motorcycles.
Kerb Weight and Seat Height
Kerb weight is the strongest USP of the Honda CB 300R. It is one of the lightest motorcycles in its segment, weighing in at just 143 kilograms. The advantages of the low weight can easily be seen in the way the motorcycle rides and handles.
It is the low kerb weight that also makes the Honda CB 300R perform well and have decent fuel efficiency. The seat height of the Honda CB 300R is at 800mm making it comfortable to ride even for those who are not too tall in stature.
Tyres and Brakes
The Honda CB 300R rides on 17-inch wheels shod with Michelin Pilot sporty tyres for the Indian market. The CB 300R in international markets make use of Dunlop tyres that are said to have marginally higher grip levels, but the Michelin tyres are more suited to Indian road conditions, and above all, it reduces costs.
When it comes to braking prowess, the Honda CB 300R is right up there with the best of the lot. The Honda CB 300R comes with a 296mm hubless floating petal disc brake up front and a 220mm petal disc at the rear.
Clamping onto the disc up front is a 4-piston radially-mounted caliper from Nissin and at the rear is a simpler single-piston setup. It comes standard with dual-channel ABS and this one is extra safe because it is governed by an IMU.
The Honda CB 300R comes with a first-in-class Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU). The IMU makes sure to allocate stopping power according to the situation and the grip levels of each wheel. The IMU also has enabled Honda to implement rear-wheel-lift prevention on the CB 300R.
For the Indian market, The Honda CB 300R is available only in two colours - Matte Axis Gray Metallic and Candy Chromosphere Red. The red shade certainly stands out and is attractive, the Gray shade though looks more classy and elegant. We can expect Honda to come out with new colours as updates in the near future.
