Honda Activa 125 BS-VI Revealed: FI Scooter To Be Launched In September 2019

Honda has revealed the all-new Activa 125 BS-VI for the Indian market. The Honda Activa 125 BS-VI is the first BS-VI emissions compliant scooter in the country and the second BS-VI two-wheeler to debut after the Hero Splendor i-Smart BS-VI.

The Honda Activa has constantly been among the top-three best-selling two-wheelers in the country ever since the first-gen scooter's launch. It was in June 2001 that Honda debuted the first-gen Activa with the 98cc engine.

Since then, nearly four crore Activa's have been sold in India, which goes to show how essential and influential the Activa has been to the scooter industry in India. The 125cc variant was later launched to cater to the growing 125cc segment.

18 years later, Honda aims to continue its successful run with the new BS-VI Activa 125. The Indian government has mandated that all vehicles sold in the Indian market starting from 01 April, 2020 will have to be BS-VI emissions norms compliant.

This has been mandated to allow for greener and more sustainable motoring future. The intention of the mandate was good and to all intents and purposes, it is necessary for the growing Indian automotive industry.

However, it put a lot of pressure on auto manufacturers. A few automotive manufacturers have even decided to put an end to the manufacturing of a few models. Honda however has stood up to the test.

It has revealed its first BS-VI product for the Indian market way ahead of the April 2020 deadline. The Activa 125 might not have been the best-selling 125cc scooter, but was certainly the most mature scooter of the lot and with the new features it has just received, it is one of the most attractive buys currently in the segment.

The Honda Activa 125 BS-VI looks exactly like the BS-IV variant that is currently on sale. Up front is a curvaceous mudguard and a flowing apron. Taking centre place on the front apron are the turn signal indicators with a thick chrome strip between them, lending the front of the scooter a pleasant design.

Adding to this is the LED headlamp with a visor right above it. On the side profile the most noticeable change is the chrome strip on the otherwise plain jane body. The scooter rides on alloy wheels with a matt black finish. The new Honda Activa 125 BS-VI comes with several new feature additions like reworked analogue digital instrumentation.

The analogue bit of the instrumentation handles just the speedometer. The other digital end though has a lot more to handle. Other than the usual fuel gauge, odometer and tripmeter, Honda has now added the real-time fuel-efficiency, and distance-to-empty features.

The major changes though, has obviously been made to the engine and its peripherals. The Honda Activa 125 BS-VI is still powered by the same air-cooled, 125cc, single-cylinder engine. It produces a maximum power output of 8.4bhp and a peak torque output of 10.54Nm.

It is now fuel-injected, making it the second scooter in the country to feature FI after the Hero Maestro Edge 125. It also features Honda Idling Stop System which is an advanced version of the start-stop system that is used to save fuel while idling.

It shuts down the engine at long traffic signals and the engine comes back to life when the rear brake lever is pressed. With the Activa 125 BS-Vi, Honda has pioneered the silent start technology.

Honda has used a unique mechanism in which the crankshaft is first turned backwards and then a forward motion is induced, starting the engine almost instantly with not much of the starter motor sound. The Honda Activa 125 BS-VI will be launched in September 2019, with a total of six colours on offer.

The scooter is available a three-year standard warranty and a three-year additional warranty as an optional extra. It could be launched at a price that is slightly higher than the Activa 125 BS-IV currently on sale in India.

Thoughts On Honda Activa 125 BS-VI Revealed; To be Launched In September 2019

The Honda Activa 125 BS-VI catapults Honda into the BS-VI era. It is true that Honda has implemented BS-VI way before the deadline. However, considering the number of scooters and motorcycles Honda has in its portfolio that require being upgraded to BS-VI, we would say, Honda is right on time.
