Hero Karizma Sales Down To 0 Units In India — Will Continue To Be Available For Export Markets
Hero MotoCorp launched the first-generation Karizma in the Indian market back in 2003. The first-gen model performed extremely well in the market, becoming quite popular among bikers in the country.
However, over the years Hero brought in a number of updates on the motorcycle, which failed to keep its momentum going. Over the past few months, Hero has recorded 0 units of sales for the Karizma in the Indian two-wheeler segment. According to sales reports, not even a single unit of the Karizma has been sold since February 2019.
However, the brand remains adamant on keeping the product available in the market. Hero MotoCorp confirmed to Money Control that the motorcycle will not be discontinued and will remain a part of its product lineup in India.
The brand also stated that production of the motorcycle will continue as the Karizma is available for the export market as well. Hero MotoCorp told Money Control, "Karizma is not discontinued and continues to be a part of our portfolio. At present, we are focusing on the model in our overseas markets."
The Hero Karizma was one of the first fully-faired motorcycle in the country, along with a powerful engine; almost twice the amount as some of its other siblings at that time. It was one of the first attempt by Hero to introduce premium motorcycles in the segment.
Hero MotoCorp recently launched three new motorcycle in the premium segment: Xpulse 200, Xpulse 200T and the Xtreme 200S. All three new motorcycles come powered by the same 199.6cc single-cylinder air-cooled engine producing 18.1bhp and 17.1Nm of torque; mated to a five-speed gearbox.
The current-generation Hero Karizma ZMR, on the other hand, is powered by a larger 223cc single-cylinder air-cooled engine churning out 20bhp and 19Nm of torque. It is mated to a five-speed gearbox.
Thoughts On The Hero Karizma Sales In India
The Hero Karizma was one of the first premium motorcycles from the brand in the Indian market. It had become a popular model in India, however, the motorcycle failed to carry that momentum with new updates. The Hero Karizma was one of the initial rivals to the likes of the Bajaj Pulsar 220F and the KTM Duke 200 in the market.
