Hero Karizma Sales Register 0 Units In Six Months: Will It Be Discontinued?
Hero MotoCorp's Karizma (then manufactured by Hero Honda) seems have finished it's dream run in the country. Reports are that the company has not manufactured a single unit of the Karizma in six months.
The Karizma was launched in 2003 and dominated the market until Yamaha launched the R15 in 2009 which was much cheaper than the Karizma. The motorcycle began to fade to black in 2012 when the KTM 200's, the Bajaj NS 200, and Honda's CBR250R were all scheduled for a launch.
According to the data released by the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM), Hero has not manufactured a single unit of Karizma between April 2019 and September 2019.
Hero MotoCorp has debunked claims that had discontinued Karizma, and said they would continue to manufacture and export the motorcycle. Motorcycle wholesale data however put this to rest.
The Karizma, which had carved a niche of its own quickly began fading away from the Indian two-wheeler market. The company manufactured 314 units during 2018, and 138 units during 2019. Their exports stood at just 80 units during this period.
Hero MotoCorp have not released a statement about the future of the Karizma just yet. The company is concentrating of production and deliveries of the three motorcycles they launched earlier this year - the Xpluse 200, the XPulse 200T, and the Hero Xtreme 200S.
In other Hero MotoCorp related news, the company has confirmed that they will not be participating at the upcoming Delhi Auto Expo that is scheduled for February 2020. The company says they have decided to skip the event next year because of a new set of priorities.
Hero MotoCorp feel that they need to spend time transitioning from BS-IV to BS-VI engines, and it is important for them to divert resources and personnel towards meeting business objects that ultimately benefit their stakeholders and customers.
Thoughts About Zero Production Of The Hero Karizma
The Karizma was a fantastic looking machine when it was launched. It had a lot of oomph and all of us wanted one, for sure. Unfortunately Hero did absolutely nothing to keep the spark going. They could have been the leading premium sports motorcycle manufacturers in the country. We can't help but wonder if this is truly the demise of the Karizma or if there is a phoenix in the rising.
