Harley-Davidson LiveWire Production & Delivery Stopped: All Details
American motorcycle manufacturer Harley-Davidson has issued a statement saying that the company has suspended production and deliveries of its first electric offering, the LiveWire. Harley unveiled the LiveWire in India on 27 August this year.
The company discovered a non-standard condition during a final quality check. Reports say that there is a problem with the battery charging set up. The company stopped production and deliveries immediately, and has begun more tests. There is no information about when the company will start manufacturing the motorcycle again.
The Harley-Davidson LiveWire is powered by a water-cooled (PMSM) Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor that produces 103.5bhp of power and 116Nm of torque, making it the company's most powerful engine/ motor to date.
The LiveWire is capable of extreme speeds, but has been electronically limited to 185kmph. The motorcycle nails the 0-100kmph mark in three seconds.
The Harley-Davidson LiveWire features a 15.5kWh battery pack that allows for a rang of 225km within a city, and 113km on a highway. A standard stage one charger take 12 hours to fully charge the battery. A stage three fast charger is available (as an optional) and charges the battery up to 80% in 40 minutes.
The motorcycle is heavily inspired from Harley's Sportster family. The tank features a charging slot instead of a fuel filler cap. It also features an aluminum trellis frame that houses the powertrain.
The LiveWire features a full-LED headlamp that is housed in a fantastic, one-of-a-kind cowl. The LED tail-lamp has been integrated with the rear seat adding more aggression to the design. The motorcycle also features a Bluetooth enabled 4.3-inch TFT display, turn-by-turn navigation, and Geo-fencing.
The all new LiveWire features inverted Showa suspension at the front, and a fully-adjustable mono-shock at the rear. Braking is handled by two 300mm discs at the front, and a single 260mm disc at the rear.
The motorcycle is rider-friendly and features electronic aids to enhance riding experience. Electronic aids include a six-axis IMU, a traction control system, a (DSCS) Drag-Torque Slip Control System that modulates torque at the wheel, and an (ABS) Anti-Lock Brake System with cornering ABS.
Thoughts About Harley-Davidson Suspending Production And Deliveries Of The LiveWire
We're impressed that Harley halted production and deliveries of the LiveWire as soon as they found a problem. We're sure the manufacturer has recalled motorcycles that have already been delivered (if any). Now that's the difference between an American manufacturer and a domestic one.
