Harley-Davidson LiveWire Production & Delivery Resumed: All Details
American motorcycle manufacturer, Harley-Davidson, has just announced that the company has resumed production and deliveries of its first electric offering, the LiveWire. Harley unveiled the LiveWire in India during August this year.
The company announced that customers who own the Harley-Davidson LiveWire can resume charging their motors at home. Harley recently discovered a problem with the battery charging system in the motorcycle and asked customers to charge their bikes at authorised dealerships until the issue was resolved.
A spokesperson for Harley-Davidson said that temporarily halting production and deliveries allowed for the company to identify the non-standard condition as a ‘singular occurrence' and on one motorcycle only.
The Harley-Davidson LiveWire features a water-cooled (PMSM) Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor that produces 103.5bhp of power and 116Nm of torque. The LiveWire is capable of high top speeds, but the company has electronically limited the top end to 85kmph. The motorcycle does the 0-100kmph mark in three seconds.
The Harley-Davidson LiveWire features a 15.5kWh battery pack that allows for a range of 113km on a highway, and 225km within a city. The standard stage one charger that arrives with the bike takes 12 hours to fully charge the battery. A stage three fast charger is available (as an optional) and charges the battery up to 80% in 40 minutes.
The motorcycle's design is inspired from Harley's Sportster family. The tank houses a charging slot instead of a fuel filler cap. It also features a powertrain that is housed in an aluminum trellis frame.
The LiveWire features a one-of-a-kind cowl that houses a full-LED headlamp. The LED tail-lamp has been integrated with the rear seat adding more ‘muscle' to the design. The motorcycle also features turn-by-turn navigation, Geo-fencing, and a Bluetooth enabled 4.3-inch TFT display.
The Harley-Davidson LiveWire features inverted Showa forks at the front, and a fully-adjustable mono-shock at the rear. Braking is handled by two 300mm discs at the front, and a single 260mm disc at the rear.
The motorcycle has been built to be rider-friendly and features electronic aids to enhance riding experience. Electronic aids include a six-axis IMU, a traction control system, a (DSCS) Drag-Torque Slip Control System that modulates torque at the wheel, and an (ABS) Anti-Lock Brake System with cornering ABS.
Thoughts About Harley-Davidson Resuming Production And Deliveries Of The LiveWire
We're equally impressed at the speed at which Harley has fixed the problem, and resumed production and deliveries. They've taken exactly one week to achieve this. And here we are, rolling out Anniversary Editions instead of rebuilding a brand. Slow clap.
