Ducati Electric Motorcycle Confirmed For 2021: Rival The Harley-Davidson LiveWire

Edouard Lotthe, Managing Director, Ducati Western Europe revealed back in 2017, that they had plans to introduce an electric motorcycle and scooter in the market by 2021. Now, Domenicali's latest statement, further confirms the above plans for an electric motorcycle.

The CEO according to reports has also been spotted riding a Ducati Hypermotard concept. This was developed by Ducati in collaboration with the Milan Polytechnic School of Design. The Concept was powered by a Zero FX powertrain. However, Ducati might also be testing multiple powertrain options as well with their existing model.

It will also be interesting to see Ducati is partnering with Energica - official EV partner for the Moto E World Cup. Energica is a performance electric motorcycle manufacturer, headquartered in Modena, Italy. The Energica Ego Corsa Supersport has been testing throughout the year at demo laps during the entire MotoGP calendar.

Apart from Ducati, other major manufacturers are also looking into electric mobility for the future. American brand, Harley-Davidson showcased their production-spec Livewire at the 2018 EICMA.

The Livewire electric cruiser from Harley-Davidson is expected to be introduced in international markets, sometime in 2019. Apart from the Livewire, Harley-Davidson will also introduce a range of other electric offerings with both larger and smaller displacements, compared to the Livewire.

Harley-Davidson, however, is yet to announce the exact technical specification of the motorcycle. They are expected to announce it along with the pricing, closer to the date of launch.

Thoughts On The Ducati Electric Motorcycle

The new Ducati electric motorcycle is currently in its initial stages. Ducati also is yet to confirm whether the technology used for the upcoming electric products will be from the brand themselves, or an existing tech from others. Currently, not many details are known about the electric motorcycle, with more updates expected in the future.
