2019 Dakar Rally Stage 7 Results — Hero MotoSports’ Joaquim Rodrigues Secures His Best-Ever Position
2019 Dakar Rally: Stage 7 (San Juan de Marcona - San Juan de Marcona) results out. Distance: 62km liaison + 323km special. Here are the highlights.
Stage 7 results of 2019 Dakar Rally are out. All participants, regardless of the category, had a tough time going through the mixed terrains of the route. While the fastest contestants led the way on the flat off-road sections at the beginning of Stage 7, the tricky fesh-fesh, dunes and rough plateaus which came after slowed them down. TVS is still recovering from the unexpected retirement of Lorenzo Santolino in the previous stage — check out the results of Stage 6.
The seventh stage of Dakar 2019 looped around San Juan de Marcona itself, for a total distance of 385km (62km liaison and 323km special). The route was a bit misleading to many since there was no sign of potential challenges at the very beginning. Dune formations pushed the participants to the limits for almost 50km in the Duna Grande and Duna Argentina sectors, before opening some faster stretches towards the end of the stage.
There is a reason why Dakar is known as the world's toughest rally, but no participant signs their name in without knowing this. Finishing the entire rally itself is an achievement.
Finally, at the end of the seventh stage, Ricky Brabec from Monster Energy Honda team came first while Adrien Van Beveren (Yamaha Racing) and Toby Price (Red Bull KTM Rally Factory) finished in the second and third positions, respectively. Sam Sunderland from KTM was the fastest, overall.
Joaquim Rodrigues from Hero MotoSports made the seventh stage of Dakar 2019, his best ever. He finished 11th and bumped his overall ranking to 24th. His teammate, Oriol Mena had a crash, but managed to maintain his 13th overall standing.
Sherco TVS Racing did considerably well in the stage. Michael Metge finished 15th and pushed to 31st overall, while his brother and teammate, Adrien Metge came 32nd. Indian rider, Aravind KP also showcased a commendable performance even though he faced some issues with his navigational system. He is currently in the 47th position now.
Verdict
The Indian teams at Dakar 2019 are slowly closing into the top 10 positions. In the coming stage, the remaining five Indian team members are expected to showcase their best. Stage 8 extends from San Juan de Marcona to Pisco.
