Bookings for the BMW R 1250 GS models were already started a week before for an amount of Rs 5 lakh. The base price of the latest-generation BMW adventure motorcycles is over a lakh higher than that of the outgoing R 1200 GS models.

The BMW R 1250 GS was first unveiled at EICMA Motorcycle Show 2018, held in Milan, Italy. Compared to its predecessor, the BMW R 1250 GS boasts of many features and riding aids to stand apart from its competitors. The basic design is rugged and imposing, as it was always.

The three variants differ slightly in terms of aesthetics, but varies a lot when it comes to equipment levels. The R 1250 GS Adventure variants feature off-road-spec spoked wheels while the Standard version gets alloys.

Other differences include the BMW R 1250 GS Adventure's luggage rack, crash guards and knuckle guards. At a kerb weight of 249kg, it is 20kg heavier as well. The fuel capacity is also higher at 30 litres when compared to the Standard's 20-litre tank.

Full-LED headlamps and tail lamps, riding modes (Road and Rain), Automatic Stability Control (ASC), Hill Start Control (HSC), 6.5-inch TFT instrument console, semi-active electronic suspension with 'automatic load compensation'; add to the common equipment list.

The BMW R 1250 GS Adventure Pro, on the other hand, features Dynamic Traction Control (DTC), ABS Pro, Hill Start Control Pro and Dynamic Brake Assist.

Powering the new BMW R 1250 GS range is a 1254cc twin-cylinder boxer engine which makes 136bhp and 143Nm of torque. This is mated to a six-speed gearbox. In comparison, the R 1200 GS's 1170cc power plant makes only 124bhp and 125Nm.

Another highlight of the engine is its 'Shiftcam Technology'; or in simple terms, Variable Valve Timing. Put together, the BMW R 1250 GS models come with a lot for the price.

Thoughts On The New BMW R 1250 GS

BMW Motorrad's GS line-up has always been a benchmark in the adventure motorcycle market across the globe. This is especially evident from the fact that a good majority of people generalise adventure motorcycles by calling them 'GSA' (as in GS Adventure). In this regard, the BMW R 1250 GS will be a strong rival in the market of the Ducati Multistrada 1260 and Triumph Tiger 1200.
