Benelli TNT 600i To Feature BS-VI Complaint Engine — Before 1 April 2020 Deadline

While we expect some motorcycle manufacturers to discontinue some models when the BS-VI norms come in to effect on 1 April 2020, there are others who are taking it in their stride. Benelli is one such manufacturer. The company has said that it will upgrade highly popular TNT 600i to BS-VI standards before the April 2020 deadline.

Benelli launched the TNT 600i way back in 2015, and offered the ABS upgrade in 2017. The motorcycle has not received any upgrades since. For a short while, the TNT 600i, and other Benelli motorcycle models were taken off the retailing space, temporarily, until the Italian manufacturer found a new partner.

According to AutoCar India, the motorcycle was then reintroduced in December 2018, and was priced at Rs 6.20 lakh ex-showroom (India), and it became, and still is the most affordable four-cylinder motorcycle in India.

Vikas Jhabakh, Managing Director, Benelli India, said, "The TNT 600i has always been the crown jewel of our portfolio and has always been the strongest product ever since its launch. This continues even today, as we see a strong following for the TNT 600i across the country."

We expect that there will be an increase in the price when the TNT 600i features a BS-VI compliant engine, however, we doubt Benelli will increase it by too much. Benelli has found success with the TNT 600i and they definitely want to keep it that way.

The Benelli TNT 600i that is currently available features and engine that produces 86.2bhp of power and 54.6Nm of torque. It's likely that these figures will change as a result of the modifications made to meet the BS-VI emission norms although by how much, if at all, remains to be seen.

Thoughts About Benelli Upgrading The TNT 600i To Meet BS-VI Norms

This is excellent news. We hope the company manages to keep the pricing at the lowest they possibly can. The TNT 600i is the cheapest four-cylinder that is available in India and that is why the model has done really well. We definitely want to test the machine once it has a BS-VI complaint engine on it!
