MV Agusta has entered a partnership with Loncin Motorcycles to develop and produce 350-500cc motorcycles. The new motorcycles under the partnership would be designed by MV Agusta but produced by Loncin.
Loncin will provide MV Agusta with the know-how in manufacturing in the 350-500cc segment while MV Agusta will help Loncin in the 800cc segment. Chinese motorcycle giant Longxin Motorcycle Industry manufactures motorcycles, motorcycle engines, ATVs, and other motor components under the brand name 'Loncin'.
Loncin is actually a well-known premium motorcycle brand in China. Its motorcycles are well-respected in other parts of the world as well. Loncin's motorcycles are sold in Italy under the Italika brand name, in Russia and Belarus as Minsk, Zanella in Argentina, etc.
Loncin also has previous experience in partnerships with European motorcycle manufacturers. In 2005, Loncin and BMW Motorrad entered into an agreement in which Loncin would produce the engines for the BMW G650GS adventure motorcycle.
Through this agreement, the Chinese motorcycle manufacturer gained significant technical benefits in producing a premium motorcycle's engine. This experience will now come in handy with the MV Agusta partnership.
MV Agusta on the other hand is an Italian motorcycle manufacturer that has till now made only thoroughbreds. All MV Agusta motorcycles ooze character and passion in the way they look, sound and ride.
It goes without saying that these motorcycles offer tremendous performance as well. However, the Italian manufacturer has now realised that it would have to step into the 350-500cc segment if it needs to remain competitive in global markets.
As per the agreement, MV Agusta will design and develop four new low-capacity models while Loncin would produce these motorcycles. MV Agusta has clearly mentioned that these motorcycles will retain the unique style, sound and vehicle dynamics that the company's bikes are generally known for.
There is no word on the categories the new motorcycles will fall under. Keeping in mind MV Agusta's current motorcycle line-up, we can assume that it would include a nakes streetfighter, a sports tourer, a supersport and an adventure tourer.
Design-wise, these motorcycles would retain the MV Agusta family styling. MV Agusta is well-versed in the 800-1000cc segment and this is exactly what Loncin wants from MV. MV Agusta will help Loncin in the development of a new 800cc motorcycle that will help Loncin dominate the superbike segment in China.
Timur Sardarov, CEO of MV Agusta Motor, said: "This strategic alliance is an important step to consolidate our vision for the future of MV Agusta. Our target is to reaffirm our leadership in the production of upper-premium motorcycles, while also enlarging our customer base by offering a broader range of products without compromising our distinctive design and performance."
"We are looking forward to grow with the right partners and the right products, making sure that our clients enjoy the larger choice of models, all of which share the same DNA and MV Agusta pedigree."
MV Agusta motorcycles in India are sold through a retailing partnership with Motoroyale by Kinetic. Motoroyale deals with niche motorcycle brands like Norton, Hyosung, SWM and MV Agusta.
Currently, MV Agusta is the most expensive of them all and its motorcycles are priced higher than most other European brands. With the 350-500cc motorcycles, that will soon change and we might soon have a comparatively affordable MV Agusta bike in India.
Thoughts On MV Agusta Entering A Partnership With Loncin Motorcycles From China
The new partnership will not be restricted to China alone, but the intention is to export these smaller bikes to European and Asian markets. Hence, there is no doubt that we in India will get these motorcycles too.
These motorcycles will still be more expensive than their counterparts in their respective segments. But they will offer exclusivity and that legendary MV Agusta brand. As motorcycle enthusiasts, we are really looking forward to these bikes.
