2020 Aprilia SR 125 Spotted Testing With Fuel-Injection & BS-VI Compliance

The Aprilia SR 125 update has been spotted testing in India. It is touted to be the 2020 Aprilia SR 125, but could very well be launched in India this year. It is being said that it is the 2020 model because it is compliant with BS-VI emissions norms.

Starting April 01, 2020, the Indian automotive industry will make the shift to the cleaner, greener and more efficient BS-VI emission norms. It is quite a large leap for the Indian market because we are currently using BS-IV engines.

The government has decided to skip the BS-V level and go directly to the BS-VI level to stay on par with the European market. BS-VI is going to be as stringent as Euro-VI and this requires manufacturers to do lots of redesigning and re-engineering.

A few two-wheeler manufacturers have already gone the BS-VI way with a few more working on BS-VI compliant engines. Going by these spy images, Aprilia will be the first scooter manufacturer to implement BS-VI emissions norms in India.

The new Aprilia SR 125 has been spotted bearing a BS-VI sticker on the front panel. To make it BS-VI compliant, most manufacturers are equipping their vehicles with fuel-injection systems. Even the next-gen Honda Activa is touted to be fuel-injected and this basically means that 2020 will be last year for carburetor-fueled vehicles.

Implementation of an EFI system also means that prices for the scooter are set to increase considerably. The price hike is expected to be in the range of Rs 6,000 to Rs 8,000 even though other bits of the scooter remain the same.

In the spy shots, the Aprilia SR 125 was fitted with a visor up front. It remains to be seen if the visor will be made available as a standard or optional fitting. The Aprilia SR 125 is expected to continue using the same 220mm disc brake up font and 140mm drum brake at the rear. Suspension duties will still be handled by a telescopic fork up front and a monoshock at the rear.

The Aprilia SR 125 is currently powered by an air-cooled, 124.49cc, single-cylinder engine with a maximum power output of 9.6bhp and a peak torque output of 9.9Nm. The update might give the engine more power as a result of being fuel-injected. The BS-Vi compliant Aprilia SR 150 too is expected to be launched soon

Thoughts On 2020 Aprilia SR 125 With Fuel Injection Spotted Testing

All major two-wheeler manufacturers in India will have to rework on their product line-up to make it compliant with BS-VI norms. All two-wheelers on sale in India after March 2020 will in all probability be fuel-injected and the Aprilia SR 125 is the first scooter to be updated.
