Yamaha YZF-R15 V2.0 Discontinued In India
Yamaha has discontinued the YZF-R15 V2.0 in the Indian market. Yes, the Japanese two-wheeler maker has removed the R15 V2.0 from its official website. The second-gen R15 has been pulled out from the market as the R15 V3 is selling in numbers and demand for the V2 model will be less.
The Yamaha R15 was a game-changing motorcycle in the entry-level performance segment. With its design inspired from the bigger R1, the R15 was an instant hit in the Indian market. Then, Yamaha introduced the R15 V2.0 with a new design and aggressive styling inspired from the Yamaha MotoGP bike.
Yamaha also retails the R15 S which comes with a comfortable single seat and the overall design is similar to the first-gen R15. Surprisingly, the R15 S is listed on the website and the R15 V2.0 has been removed. The fall in demand could be one of the reasons behind the discontinuation of the bike.
Yamaha did not discontinue the R15 V20 when the R15 V3.0 was launched. Initially, the response for the R15 V3.0 was average, but in the past few months, the third-gen R15 is selling in good numbers. So, Yamaha might have decided to stop the sales of the previous model.
Yamaha has also launched the R15 V3.0 MotoGP edition with a price tag of Rs 1.30 lakh ex-showroom (Delhi). The special edition bike features the livery of the factory Yamaha MotoGP bike. The bike gets a prominent Movistar logo on the fairing, front cowl and Eneos branding on the engine belly pan.
The Yamaha R15 V3.0 draws power from a 155cc liquid-cooled, fuel-injected, single-cylinder engine that produces 19bhp and 15N of torque. The engine is mated to a 6-speed gearbox assisted by a slipper clutch. The R15 V2.0 was powered by a 149cc engine and it also does not get a slipper clutch.
Thoughts On The Discontinuation Of Yamaha R15 V2.0
Yamaha has finally discontinued the R15 V2.0 after the launch of the third generation R15. The new R15 V3.0 is selling in numbers and the company does not want to hamper the sales of the motorcycle. So, the R15 V2.0 had to be discontinued. But, Yamaha will continue to retail the R15 S which features an outdated design of the first-gen R15.
