TVS NTorq 125 Design

The styling on the TVS NTorq is claimed to be inspired by the design on stealth fighter aircraft. This allows the scooter to have sharp lines and an overall aggressive design with a chiseled front apron. Further improving the design is the aerodynamic sculpting which has come as a result of TVS' experience in racing.

Overall dimensions and the basic design has been retained from the TVS Graphite concept however, intricate details like the unique LED daytime running lights, red contrast stitching on the seat, faux carbon fibre panels, etc are all fresh.

The TVS NTorq also comes with a signature LED tail lamp design that along with the rear panel designed like a jet fighter's exhaust system makes the TVS NTorq instantly recognisable from a distance. TVS Ntorq 125 Engine and Performance:

The TVS NTorq's engine is a 125cc CVTi Revv unit. The air-cooled, single-cylinder engine produces a maximum power output of 9.27bhp @7,500 rpm and class leading torque of 10.4Nm. These figures also lead to the TVS Ntorq having the fastest acceleration in its class, and a claimed top speed of 95 km/h.

Well, on our test, the built-in top speed recorder clocked 99km/h, which is plenty fast for a 125cc scooter. Several other features like auto choke, intelligent ignition system, split type intake design, foam-on-paper air filter and a unique oil cooling system for the combustion chamber make the scooter perform better.

TVS NTorq 125 Ride and Handling:

Thumbing the starter button is reciprocated by a quick turning starter motor and a bassy exhaust note, which to be honest one wouldn't expect from a scooter. It can, in a quiet place be easily mistaken for a more refined aftermarket exhaust system. Even by-standers would easily notice that it is pretty loud for a scooter.

Acceleration is pretty brisk, with the in-built acceleration timer recording a 0-60km/h run in 7 seconds. It also comes with a segment-first petal-disc brake up-front as standard, thereby making it extremely safe. It lacks the initial bite one would expect from a petal disc brake, however it is powerful enough to bring the scooter to a stop quicker than it accelerates.

TVS markets the NTorq 125 as a sporty scooter for everyday use, and we certainly saw its sporty side going flat out at the long right-hand corner. The scooter leans well into corners and definitely inspired confidence which made us go faster and faster around the track. After a few laps, the confidence was so high that the underpanels ended up scraping the track.

Though most of these scooters will not even come close to cornering like this in everyday use, its capability is something that Gen-Z - TVS' target audience can boast of. Going around TVS' loop skills track showed how agile and nimble the TVS NTorq is, though it looks bulky and heavy.

Special mention has to be made of the tyres on the scooter. The front end is shod with 100/80-12 sized tyres while the rear sports 110/80-12 sized tyres. It is a new brand named Remora from TVS Tyres and has been made specifically with performance as a priority. While it did squeal quite a bit under hard braking from 98km/h, not once did the scooter go out of the line I intended to take.

DriveSpark's Thoughts On The TVS NTorq 125!

The TVS NTorq 125 certainly seems to have taken the scooter world by storm - first at its debut and then when it was showcased at the Auto Expo 2018. A futuristic design, coupled with better features than any other scooter in the market makes it a strong contender for the top spot in the 125cc scooter segment.

However, the competition too is tough, as the TVS NTorq 125 will compete with the Honda Grazia, which recently achieved the landmark of selling 50,000 units in just 2.5 months. It will also go against the Aprilia SR 125 which was launched at the Auto Expo 2018 and also against the Hero Duet 125 and Maestro 125 which were also showcased at the Auto Expo.
