India-Bound SWM Brand To Launch Four New V-Twin Engines For Global Markets — Includes A 350cc V-Twin
SWM To Launch Four New V-Twin Engines Soon
Chinese company Shineray, owner of Italian motorcycle brand SWM, has announced plans to launch four V-Twin engines which will power motorcycles under the SWM name.
These new V-Twin units will be of different displacements: 350cc, 550cc, 850cc and 1200cc guises. Currently, SWM uses Husqvarna and Shineray single-cylinder engines, but Shineray claims the new V-Twins will be available soon. The new V-Twins were presented at an event in China to mark Shineray's 20th anniversary.
Prototype engines were displayed at the event bearing both Shineray and SWM names. The engine pictured above appears to be the biggest offering, a DOHC, water-cooled V-Twin. The smallest offering is a 350cc V-Twin and will power the lightweight bikes of the brand.

The next is a 500cc V-twin designed to cater to 'advanced riders' and 'city riding', there will also be an 850cc V-twin as well. As for the 1200cc V-twin, the engine's design is aimed to provide 'ultimate experience'.
So how does this affect the Indian market? SWM has signed an agreement with Kinetic MotoRoyale, the same group which brought the MV Agusta and the upcoming Norton brand to India, will launch the SWM Superdual single-cylinder adventure motorcycle.
Presently, SWM's product lineup boasts of motorcycles ranging from 125cc to 600cc models. With the mid-capacity engine gaining popularity in India, the 350cc or even the 500cc V-twin engines from SWM could power some of the upcoming bikes for India.
SWM's engines are a mix of Shineray designs and bigger ones that it obtained from Husqvarna. However, they're all single-cylinder engines, so the move to a range of V-twins will be a significant development.
SWM is known for its enduro, motocross and off-road motorcycles and has been designing and producing motorcycles since the 1970s for the European markets. The company went into liquidation in 1984; however, Shineray has been funding SWM since 2014.
DriveSpark Thinks!
There is a good possibility that SWM could launch a 350cc V-twin powered adventure motorcycle in India. These mid-capacity units will compete with the Royal Enfield motorcycles in the country which has been dominating the market for decades.
