Sale Of Non-ISI Helmets To Be Banned In India
Non-ISI helmet sales to be banned in India: The Government of India will ban the sales of non-ISI helmets by the end of 2018.
The Government of India will soon ban the sale of non-ISI two-wheeler helmets in the country. Yes, you read it right. By the end of 2018, the sale of non-ISI helmets will be banned in India. This is a huge step taken by the government for the safety of the two-wheeler riders in the country.
The ISI helmets association has welcomed government's move to ban the sale of non-ISI helmets in the country. The development took place at an event organised by the Road Transport Ministry, where Nitin Gadkari and Dharmendra Pradhan launched the Sukhad Yatra app and emergency helpline number for highway users.
Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) has informed the Supreme Court panel that the ban on sale of non-ISI helmets can be implemented within six months. According to currents stats, around 75 to 80 percent of two-wheeler riders use non-ISI helmets.

The main reason behind this is the availability of non-ISI helmets at a very cheap price. But the users forget that non-ISI helmets do not provide any safety in case of an accident. The road fatalities are increasing day-by-day and majority of cases are involved with two-wheeler accidents.
Now, the government has taken a bold step by making all the helmet manufacturers to obtain ISI certification from Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS). After the rule is implemented, nobody can sell helmets without the ISI mark and the fake ISI helmets will attract severe action.
Wearing a helmet to protect yourself is the basic thing you need to follow while riding a two-wheeler. But most of the people either do not wear one or go for cheap non-ISI helmets to save money. The non-ISI helmets are made of very low-quality materials, and they do not provide any protection.
India is a vast country and the demand for two-wheeler helmets is around 90 million units per year. But the majority of people go for non-ISI helmets. But with the ban on such helmets, the government is trying to improve the safety of riders.

The Government of India has taken a right decision by putting an end to the sales of non-ISI helmets in the country. Without banning such helmets, it is extremely difficult to stop people from buying non-ISI helmets. The root cause is the sales of cheap quality helmets and with the new law set to be implemented by the end of 2018 will see riders opting for ISI helmets.
