The Government of India will soon ban the sale of non-ISI two-wheeler helmets in the country. Yes, you read it right. By the end of 2018, the sale of non-ISI helmets will be banned in India. This is a huge step taken by the government for the safety of the two-wheeler riders in the country.

The ISI helmets association has welcomed government's move to ban the sale of non-ISI helmets in the country. The development took place at an event organised by the Road Transport Ministry, where Nitin Gadkari and Dharmendra Pradhan launched the Sukhad Yatra app and emergency helpline number for highway users.

Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) has informed the Supreme Court panel that the ban on sale of non-ISI helmets can be implemented within six months. According to currents stats, around 75 to 80 percent of two-wheeler riders use non-ISI helmets.

Now, the government has taken a bold step by making all the helmet manufacturers to obtain ISI certification from Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS). After the rule is implemented, nobody can sell helmets without the ISI mark and the fake ISI helmets will attract severe action.
