Royal Enfield Back In The Game — Monthly Sales More Than Bajaj Dominar
Royal Enfield Himalayan overtakes the Bajaj Dominar sales figures for the first time. Both motorcycles were introduced on the Indian market in 2016. The Royal Enfield Himalayan is the brand's first adventurer-tourer motorcycle while the Dominar is the most powerful product from Bajaj, till date.
Initial sales of the Bajaj Dominar were expected to touch a monthly average of 10,000 units. However, since launch, the sales figures kept hovering around 2,200 units. Off late, this number further reduced to around 1,500 units.
Accordingto SIAM sales data for September 2018, the Bajaj Dominar recorded a sales figure of just 1,095 units. During the same month, the troubled Royal Enfield Himalayan recorded sales of 1,140 units. Allowing the Royal Enfield Himalayan to finally overtake the sales of the Bajaj Dominar.
The Royal Enfield Himalayan was supposed to do extremely well in the market, being the brand's first adventure-tourer. However, a series of issues regarding its manufacturing, brought down it's sales significantly. The Himalayan now records an average sales figures of around 1,500 units every month.
The Bajaj Dominar, on the other hand, was launched to directly rival Himalayan's sibling, the Royal Enfield Classic 350. Bajaj even came up with a number of TV adverts, trying to prove the unreliability and lack of performance of the Classic 350.
Having said this, the sales of the Bajaj Dominar might also be witnessing a temporary slump. Bajaj is reportedly working on the facelifted version of the Dominar for the Indian market. The Dominar facelift was spotted testingacouple of times and is expected to be launched soon.
The new Bajaj Dominar, once launched, will bring a host of updates and additional features. The facelifted Dominar is expected to feature upside-down front forks, dual-channel ABS and a double-barrel exhaust as well.
However, the engine remains the same 373.3cc liquid-cooled single-cylinder engine, producing 34bhp and 35Nm of peak torque. The engine is mated to a six-speed gearbox.
While the intense sales battle between the Royal Enfield Himalayan and Bajaj Dominar is taking place, Jawa Motorcycles is all set to re-enter the Indian market, with their new 300cc and 350cc offerings. The new Jawa motorcycles were spotted on multiple occasions ahead of their launch and bookings for the Jawa models have also started unofficially.
Thoughts On Royal Enfield Himalayan Vs Bajaj Dominar Sales
Royal Enfield Himalayan has had lacklustre sales figures on the market since the time of its launch. The Chennai-based brand even introduced a fuel-injected version of the Himalayan. However, it failed to gain the expected momentum.
Over the past few months, the Royal Enfield Himalayan has been garnering steady sales figures and has finally overtaken the Bajaj Dominar.
