Mahindra-Peugeot Scooter Launch Plan Put On Hold — Find Out Why
Mahindra-Peugeot Scooter Launch Plan Put On Hold
Mahindra has acquired a 51 percent stake in Peugeot Scooters in 2014 and the plan was launch premium scooters under the Peugeot brand in 2017-18.
Now, Mahindra has decided to put on hold on its plans of Peugeot scooter launch in India.
The news was confirmed by Mr Pawan Goenka, MD, Mahindra to Moneycontrol.
The reason why the Peugeot scooters will not be launched anytime soon is that Mahindra was not able to price the Peugeot scooters according to Indian buyer's expectations.
Since the brand was acquired in 2014, Mahindra has been conducting several customer clinics to understand their preferences as well as to find out the right product positioning in the market.
However, it looks like Mahindra has hit a roadblock due it premium pricing nature the Peugeot scooters demand.
The company was supposed to introduce two to three Peugeot scooters in India.
Among them were the Django and the Speedfight. Both the scooters fall under 125cc premium scooter segment.
The 125cc scooter segment is becoming quite popular in the last couple of months.

DriveSpark's Thoughts About Mahindra-Peugeot Scooter Launch In India
As mentioned, the 125cc scooter segment is becoming quite popular in recent times, and Mahindra should look to enter the market at an early stage.
That said, reports suggest that Mahindra wants to know how the prices of two-wheelers will change after the implementation of BS VI emission norms, which is set to kick in from 2020.
This could alter plans of all two-wheeler manufacturers in India, especially the scooter segment. Mahindra might able to find the right balance is offering a premium rich 125cc scooter with an attractive price.
