KTM 125 Duke To Be Introduced In India — Launch Details Revealed
Austrian motorcycle manufacturer KTM is planning to introduce a new product in the Indian market. Overdrive reports that KTM is planning to launch the entry-level 125 Duke naked motorcycle in the Indian market. The KTM 125 Duke is expected to be launched in November 2018.
KTM had stated that the 125cc bikes come under the commuter segment and introducing the 125 Duke in India will be an expensive affair. But now, it looks like KTM is ready to introduce the baby Duke in the country. The KTM 125 Duke is manufactured in India at Bajaj's Chakan plant and the pricing should be competitive.
The overall design of the KTM 125 Duke is inspired from the bigger 1290 SuperDuke and the motorcycle looks identical to the new 390 Duke. The global-spec KTM 125 Duke comes with all the bells and whistles such as LED headlight and TFT digital instrument cluster.
The KTM 125 Duke draws power from a 124.7cc liquid-cooled, single-cylinder, fuel-injected engine that produces 14.7bhp and 11.80Nm of torque. The engine is mated to a 6-speed gearbox. The KTM 125 Duke will be the most powerful 125cc bike in the Indian market.
The export-spec KTM 125 Duke is equipped with 43mm WP upside down forks at the front and WP monoshock suspension at the rear. Braking duties are handled by a 300mm disc up front and a 230mm disc at the rear. The motorcycle also gets Bosch dual-channel ABS.
It will be interesting to see if the India-spec model features the same design as the Euro-spec 125 Duke. KTM might introduce the 125 Duke with the 200 Duke's styling to keep the costs low. The India-spec KTM 125 Duke might also do with the CBS system as two-wheelers under 125cc does not require to have ABS.
Thoughts On The KTM 125 Duke
The entry-level performance motorcycle segment is growing at a rapid pace in the country and KTM is planning to expand the Duke portfolio. The KTM 125 Duke will create a new segment in the Indian market as it doesn't have any rivals. Expect the pricing to be above Rs 1 lakh ex-showroom and in terms of pricing, the KTM 125 Duke will rival the likes of TVS Apache RTR 200 4V and the Yamaha FZ25.
