Bajaj Auto Contributes Rs 2 Crore To Kerala Flood Relief Operations
The state of Kerala in the Southern part of India is currently reeling under devastation from the worst flood it has ever seen. Bajaj Auto is the latest automotive company to have chipped in.
The state of Kerala in the Southern part of India is currently reeling under devastation from the worst flood it has ever seen. In these circumstances, there have been multiple organisations and large companies including governments who have come to the rescue of those in Kerala.
Several automotive brands too had contributed in terms of finances to help rescue efforts. Now, with the flood slowly receding, it is time to rebuild the state. Thousands of houses have been washed away and lakhs of people have been displaced from their homes in what is one of the worst natural disasters seen in India.
Bajaj Auto is the latest automotive company to have chipped-in and donated money to help rebuild the state. Bajaj Auto announced a donation of Rs 2 crore to help play a part in getting the state of Kerala back on its feet.
Rs 1 crore would directly be contributed to the Chief Minister's Distress Relief Fund (CMDRF) set up by the Chief Minister's office in Kerala. The other half would be used for the betterment and rehabilitation of the people through the Jankidevi Bajaj Gram Vikas Sanstha (JBGVS).
This contribution is in addition to the money contributed by various Bajaj trusts amounting to a total of Rs 50 lakh. The CMDRF is already involved heavily in funding rescue efforts and in rebuilding damaged infrastructure. The additional contribution of Rs 1 crore would certainly help expedite efforts.
JBGVS on the other hand is an institution owned and run by the Bajaj Group that takes care of Bajaj Auto's corporate social responsibility programs. With the 1 crore rupees, JBGVS will be providing a basic startup kit to 1,000 families.
The start-up kit will include basic necessities that would help people restart their lives after moving into their flood-ravaged houses. Things like water filter, tarpaulin sheets, nylon ropes, kitchen utensils, plastic sleeping mats, towels, blankets etc. would be part of the start-up kit that would be distributed.
These start-up kits will be distributed through the several Bajaj Auto commercial vehicle dealerships located across the state. A few other NGOs participating in relief and rehabilitation too would help in distributing these kits.
Thoughts On Bajaj Auto Extending A Helping Hand In Flood Relief
Over eight lakh people have been displaced from their homes in Kerala, and over 350 people have lost their lives. Adding to this is the requirement for infrastructure to be rebuilt. With such widespread devastation, the people of Kerala need all the help they can receive. It is great to see major companies stepping up and lending a helping hand in the name of humanity.
