The Kawasaki Versys 1000 has been discontinued in India. The move was taken by the Japanese manufacturer after they realized that the demand for the bike had become very less. The Versys-X 300 and Versys 650 are still up for sales and are much more affordable.

The motorcycle has also gone missing from India Kawasaki Motors' official website. This litre-class adventure tourer that was introduced in India back in 2015, carried a price tag of Rs 13.28 lakh ex-showroom (Delhi). In this price range, the Kawasaki Versys 1000 was one of the most versatile motorcycles in our country.

Though the Versys was a really capable motorcycle, it had a tough time facing competition from the Triumph Tiger 800, Honda Africa Twin, BMW R 1200 GS Adventure and the Ducati Multistrada 950. The company now plans to concentrate and increase the sales of the younger versions (300 & 650) of the adventure tourer. The remaining stocks of the Versys 1000 were sold out last year itself.

The Versys 1000 has a sheer weight of 239kg and a tall seat height of 845mm. These features made it quite intimidating for some riders. On the other hand, the competition offers far more flexibility when it comes to seat height adjustment.

Powering the Versys 1000 is a 1043cc inline four-cylinder engine. The engine churned out 118bhp and 102Nm of peak torque. It is paired with a 6-speed transmission. The inline-four engine it tuned for a more linear power delivery at the low and mid-range.

On the feature front, the motorcycle comes with a semi-digital instrument console. The console shows vital information such as temperature, trip meter, odometer, clock, distance to empty, real-time mileage indicator etc. Other equipment includes Kawasaki Traction Control system (KTRC) and two riding modes (high and low).

The suspension system comprises of KYB 43mm inverted fork with adjustable rebound and preload at the front. While at the rear, it has got a remote preload adjuster to ensure high ground clearance. Braking duties were handled by 310mm dual petal rotors with four-piston calliper brakes at the front and a single 250mm petal rotor with single-piston calliper brake at the rear.

The Versys 1000 was the top-of-the-line tourer from the stable of Kawasaki Motors. The motorcycle offered a commanding and luxurious riding position to the riders. Sadly, the company had to pull the plug on the Versys 1000 in India due to its low demand.
