Jawa Motorcycles To Use Mojo’s Engine Platform
Jawa motorcycles to use Mojo’s engine platform: Mahindra is all set to launch the Jawa bikes in India by the end of 2018.
Mahindra & Mahindra acquired the Jawa and BSA brands in 2016 as part of its premium two-wheeler venture. Since then, the Jawa enthusiasts are waiting for the classic bikes to enter the Indian market.
Now, Autocar Pro reports that the upcoming Jawa bikes will make use of Mojo's 300cc engine platform. The report also states that the first Jawa bike will hit the Indian roads by the end of 2018 or early 2019. Expect the first Jawa to be launched by the festive season of 2018.
The first Jawa bike will displace around 300cc and will draw power from the same engine platform of the Mahindra Mojo. But the engine will be tuned differently to match the characteristics of the Jawa bike.
The new Jawa bikes will be developed by Mahindra's Classic Legends brand. The sources close to the development has revealed that the Mojo's 300cc engine is scalable and can be used as per model profiling of the Jawa and BSA bikes.
By using the Mojo's engine platform for the Jawa, Mahindra will save a lot of investment and time. Mahindra states that the current engine platform of Mojo remains underutilised as Mojo has not performed to the expectations in India.
The use of the existing engine platform will also help Mahindra to price the Jawa bikes aggressively in the Indian market. But, it will be interesting to see how Mahindra goes with the service and sales network for the Jawa bikes.
DriveSpark's Thoughts On The Upcoming Jawa Bikes
The new Jawa bikes will hit the Indian market in 2019, but what is more interesting is the design of the bikes. Mahindra will tweak the engine specifications, but will the original Jawa design will be retained? Only time will tell. With the cult following for Jawa in India, Mahindra could find it easier to sell the classic bikes in India.
