EICMA 2018: BMW Motorrad has unveiled the 2019 BMW S1000RR at the EICMA Motorcycle Show in Milan, Italy. The 2019 BMW S1000RR's design had leaked a couple of months ago through its patents and was also spotted testing just last month.

Well, the 2019 BMW S1000RR is everything that the patents claimed it to be, and more. It was nearly a decade ago that the BMW S1000RR created headlines when it first made its debut with the asymmetrical headlamps and ground-breaking technology.

The 2019 BMW S1000RR is doing the same yet again, because the now infamous asymmetrical headlamps have been replaced by twin LED units. The new headlamps are slim and make the motorcycle look sleeker than it is.

BMW Motorrad has also redesigned the fairing and the cowling in a way that the engine is more exposed than it was before. The shark gill design has been replaced by a more open design. Yet, there is just enough space for the rider's knees to be tucked in and away from the air flow.

The frame itself is brand new and the central part of the frame is exposed. At the rear is a new cowl and a sleek LED tail lamp. The turn signal indicators too are now LED units. The only major design aspect that gives a hint of continuity from the outgoing model is the central air intake system.

The 2019 BMW S1000RR revealed at EICMA 2018 is powered by brand-new 999cc, liquid-cooled, four-cylinder engine. It now produces a stellar 207bhp at 13,500RPM, which is a 7.89bhp increase over the outgoing model. Torque output though, remains the same with 113Nm being produced at 11,000RPM.

The engine comes loaded to the gills with the latest in technology, all derived from the world of motorsport. The valves are made of titanium and the 2019 BMW S1000RR features a ShiftCam valvetrain system which is basically variable valve timing.

This would allow the BMW S1000RR to have seamless acceleration and a good spread of power across the rev band. The gear-shifter is bi-directional, enabling clutchless shift both ways. It acts as a normal quick-shifter while upshifting and the ECU will blip the throttle for the rider while downshifting.

Performance of the 2019 BMW S1000R is said to be top notch, with a claimed top speed of 299km/h and acceleration from 0-100km/h takes under 3 seconds.

The BMW S1000RR revealed at EICMA 2018 is equipped with four riding modes: Rain, Road, Dynamic and Race. The different modes play around with the engine's power output, the way it puts down the power and changes the suspension settings. It also alters the traction control based on the selected riding mode.

The saddle height has been increased to 824mm and this allows for a mode dedicated riding position. Obvious inspiration from MotoGP is seen on the new BMW S1000RR. The swingarm, like MotoGP race bikes has been braced from underneath rather than from above as seen on most superbikes till now.

Braking on the 2019 BMW S1000RR has also seen massive improvements as it comes with Race ABS and ABS Pro. It also comes with Hill Start Control. The motorcycle weighs in at 197kgs and has a 16.5-litre fuel tank. A TFT display replaces the analogue-digital instrument cluster on the outgoing model.

The EICMA Motorcycle Show in Milan, Italy is one of the largest motorcycle-based auto shows in the world and BMW has picked the right place to launch the new BMW S1000RR.

The BMW S1000RR is a legend in its own right. Ever since its debut in 2009, it has set lap records across tracks around the world, and set record quarter mile times as well. Now with the 2019 BMW S1000RR unveiled at EICMA, BMW Motorrad would be looking to do more with the new design, better electronics, a full TFT display, etc.
