Ducati Motorcycles To Get Radar Systems In 2020 — The Ducati Radar System Is Called ARAS
Ducati motorcycles to get radar systems in 2020. Called, ARAS (Advanced Rider Assistance Systems), the technology is being developed as part of Ducati's '2025 Safety Road Map'. In addition to this, Ducati is also planning to implement ABS Cornering as a standard fitment.
The Italian motorcycle brand has always been at the forefront of riding safety and technology, along with performance. With ARAS, Ducati is moving one step forward in terms of motorcycle innovation.
ARAS employs both radars and sensors to provide real-time feedback on the surrounding environment. The project was started as early as 2016, with the participation of the Department of Electronics, Information and Bioengineering at Politecnico di Milano University. The main area of study was vehicle blind spots.
Hence, the team behind the project decided to develop a system that can provide safety from fast approaching traffic, through the use of radar. The system adjusts the adaptive cruise control, such that the rider can keep a safe distance from traffic both in front of him/her and behind. The system can also warn the rider of any risks of distraction.
The system, along with an advanced user interface, will be made available on a motorcycle coming in 2020. The other innovation as part of Ducati's ‘2025 Safety Road Map', ABS Cornering from Bosch, has already been implemented in the Ducati Scrambler 1100.
While standard ABS prevents the wheel from locking upon hard braking, the Cornering system allows full braking grip with minimal risk of falling. Combining this with a Ducati's balanced chassis, the result would be incredible.
As for ARAS, the system opens new paths for innovations in the motorcycle category.
Thoughts On The Ducati Radar System, ARAS
Although many modern cars implement radar-based systems for enhanced safety, this is the first time a motorcycle manufacturer is developing it. ARAS will ensure lesser motorcycle crashes. The system will also serve very effectively for beginner riders. With ARAS and ABS Cornering, less-skilled riders can also push a Ducati to its high limits.
