Bike Sales Report August 2018: The sales report for motorcycles for the month of August 2018 has been released. Two-wheeler manufacturers have recorded a varied growth in sales in the Indian market. With brands like Suzuki having recorded their highest-ever monthly sales growth, while other brands such as Hero MotoCorp improving by just a marginal value.
Here is the monthly sales report of each of the major two-wheeler manufacturers in India, for August 2018.
Bajaj Auto
Bajaj Auto has clocked its highest ever monthly sales in August 2018. The company has recorded a growth of 38 percent from 2,83,861 in August 2017 to 3,62,923 in the previous month.
Of this, domestic sales of Bajaj increased to 2,18,437 units in the previous month. Registering a 27 percent sales growth from 1,71,664 units in August 2017. Export also recorded a growth in sales by 29 percent. The company sold 1,44,486 units in August 2018, compared to 1,12,197 units during the same month last year.
Royal Enfield
Royal Enfield has recorded a sales of 69,377 units in August 2018. This translates to a marginal 2 percent increase in sales from 67,977 units sold during the same month last year. The YTD (Year-to-Date) domestic sales of the company also grew to 3,54,740 in August 2018. This translates to a growth of 15 percent from 3,08,911 during the same period last year.
Export sales, on the other hand, grew by 23 percent to 1,363 units in the previous month, from 1,105 units in August 2017. The YTD export sales also improved by 20 percent with 9,061 unit of sales compared to 7,523 units last year.
Hero MotoCorp
Hero MotoCorp, India's largest two-wheeler manufacturer recorded just one percent sales growth in August 2018. The company sold 6,85,047 units last month, compared to 6,78,797 units during the same month last year.
Hero hopes that the launch of the Xtreme 200R and the upcoming 125cc scooters, the Hero Maestro Edge and the Duet will help them improve sales during the festive season, about to start in India.
The company has also contributed towards the flood relief operations in Kerala. Hero dealerships across the flood-affected state have waived off repair and check-up costs, while also offering 30 percent discounts on spares till 9th September 2018.
TVS Motors
TVS Motors recorded an overall sales growth of 8 percent in the month of August 2018. The company recorded sales of 3,43,217 units in the previous months as compared to 3,17,563 units in August 2017.
Sales of two-wheelers in the domestic market improved by 2 percent to 2,75,688 units in August 2018, compared to 2,70,544 units during the same month last year. Of this, scooter sales stood at 11,26,676 and motorcycle sales recorded 1,31,743 units. Both improving by 11 and 18 percent from August 2017, respectively.
Suzuki Motorcycles India
Suzuki Motorcycles recorded their best-ever monthly sales in India. The company grew by 31 percent, registering sales of 62,446 units in August 2018. Out of this, the company's 125cc models, the Access and the newly launched Burgman Street achieved the highest sales with a total of 55,000 units in August 2018.
Suzuki Motorcycle's April to August 2018 registered sales of 2,67,888 units, translating to a 41 percent growth, compared to the same period last year.
Verdict
Bike sales in the month of August 2018, saw many manufacturers receive varied sales. While brands like TVS and Hero MotoCorp increased just marginally, other like Suzuki and Bajaj recorded their highest-ever monthly sales.
