Let us look at the sales of June 2017. With Goods and Service Tax (GST) implemented by the government of India, there were apprehensions among buyers if the prices of bikes will drop or increase leading to the postponement of purchases.

The month of June 2017 witnessed lower sales for every motorcycle manufacturer compared to May 2017, especially bigger brands like Bajaj.

With no surprises, Hero MotoCorp leads the list of best-selling bikes in June 2017. The home grown company has four bikes in the top 10 list ascertaining its dominance in the motorcycle segment in India.

Despite the dip in sales, Hero Splendor continues to be at the top-selling bikes list with sales of 2,19,103 units in June 2017. The growth slowed to 7 percent in the backdrop of GST but continues to the be the top selling bike in India.

Positioned in the second place is Hero HF Deluxe with sales of 1,54,655 units in June 2017, a 9 percent growth compared to the sales in May 2017. In the third spot is Hero Glamour selling 78,889 units in June, while it sold 67,515 units, growing by 17 percent.

Following the Hero Glamour, is another Hero MotoCorp bike, Passion. The company sold 76,605 units of Hero Passion but declined by 14 percent and positioned itself in the fourth position.

Honda has made inroads in the Indian bike industry, and its CB Shine sold 69,108 units in June 2017.

The seventh spot is held by Royal Enfield Classic 350. The iconic motorcycle manufacturer sold 42,149 units of the Classic 350 and grew by 6 percent compared to May 2017 sales.

In eight is the Bajaj Pulsar series which sold 37,503 Pulsars in June 2017 declining by a massive 25 percent due to the uncertainties over pricing of bikes based on the new tax structure.

Bajaj Auto's close rival, TVS Motors came ninth with sales of 32,742 units of the Apache series. TVS Motors felt the effect of the decline in sales due to GST with 12 percent decrease in sales compared to May 2017.

The last slot is held by Bajaj CT 100. Bajaj sold 24,776 units of CT 100 declining by a massive 36 percent compared to the previous period.
