Royal Enfield has revealed the all-new Interceptor 650 at the EICMA 2017 motorcycle show in Milan, Italy. The new Royal Enfield Interceptor 650 is one of two new motorcycles powered by the company's new parallel-twin engine.

Royal Enfield has grown 16 fold in the last decade, it is the fastest growing motorcycle maker in the world. The arrival of the new 650cc parallel twins marks a return to twin-cylinder engines for Royal Enfield after a gap of over four decades.

The parallel-twin on the new Interceptor produces 46.3bhp at 7,100rpm and 52Nm of peak torque at 4,000rpm and is mated to a 6-speed gearbox. The new Interceptor will be able to cruise at motorway speeds, something RE fans in international markets will appreciate.

The Interceptor is a name that old-school Royal Enfield fans around the world will be quite familiar with. The 700 Interceptor was introduced in 1960 as a modified version of the brand's Constellation motorcycle and was powered by a 692cc parallel-twin.

Royal Enfield updated the Series 1 interceptor in 1962 with a new 736cc engine which featured only one carburettor. A Series 1A Interceptor followed in 1966 and it eliminated the need for the magneto by introducing coil ignition.

The Series 2 Interceptor featured a wet sump engine to improve oil flow to the crankshaft. RE also moved the contact breaker points to the end of exhaust camshaft which required a redesign for the timing cover. Royal Enfield made a prototype for the third-gen Interceptor but the company went bankrupt before they could put the new bike onto production,

Royal Enfield's revival of the Interceptor name is something that will be appreciated by fans in the UK and other international markets. With production set to begin in April 2018, Indian fans will finally be able to ride the Interceptor. However, they will have to wait for a little longer to ride the new bike, as Europe is the first target for the Interceptor.

The new Interceptor is available in three different colour option. The first is this rather luminescent 'Orange Crush'.

The third and final colour is this dual tone red and black combo known as Ravishing Red.

The new Interceptor 650's engine may look old school but it features both oil and air cooling and RE have promised a brilliant soundtrack to keep Thumper fans happy.
