Royal Enfield Continental GT Sales Are Dwindling — Is This The End Of Road For The Cafe Racer?
While Royal Enfield was able to sell 26 units of the Continental GT in February 2017, it was able to sell only 15 in the month of March.
Many believe Royal Enfield has not embraced newer technology to its product lineup and solely depended on its retro and nostalgic classic design.
However, that was not the case with the Continental GT. The Chennai-based company offered its Cafe Racer with features such as Pirelli Sport Demon tyres, Paioli twin gas-charged shock absorbers with adjustable preload at the rear and most of all the company claimed its Cafe Racer is the lightest, fastest and most powerful Royal Enfield in production.
Despite positioning the Continental GT as a motorcycle with superior technology compared to other Royal Enfields, RE is facing dwindling sales of the Cafe Racer.
While Royal Enfield was able to sell 26 units of the Continental GT in February 2017, it was able to sell only 15 in the month of March.
The sales of the Continental GT has only fallen in the recent months. In comparison, Harley-Davidson Street 750 registered sales of 118 units in March 2017 despite being twice the cost of the Continental GT.
Motorcycles which are prices higher in the premium segment have managed to pull off better sales. Even similar prices motorcycles such as Duke 250 registered sales of 693 units in March.
Even during the financial year of 2016-17, RE was able to sell 1,156 units of the Continental GT, lower than 2,113 units sales of the Harley-Davidson Street 750.
It will be a wait and watch for Royal Enfield to decide if they need to continue selling the Continental GT in India. There could be a possibility that the company could replace the Continental GT with the upcoming 750cc twin cylinder Continental GT.
