Italian superbike manufacturer MV Agusta has announced that it will introduce an all-new four-cylinder platform in 2018.
Italian superbike manufacturer MV Agusta has announced that it will introduce an all-new four-cylinder platform in 2018.
MV Agusta made this announcement after acquiring the 25 percent share held by Mercedes-AMG since 2014.
MV Agusta could also update the existing four-cylinder engine, but developing an all-new powerplant will make more sense for the Italian company. The first motorcycle featuring the new four-cylinder engine could be launched as early as next year. The Brutale might be the first superbike to be powered by the new engine.

Currently, MV Agusta retails the F4 equipped with a four-cylinder engine, but the naked motorcycles such as the Brutale are selling in big numbers for the Italian bike maker. So, a 1,200cc Brutale could be the first product to hit the market equipped with the new engine.
The new four-cylinder engine is likely to be deployed in a range of models such as the Dragster, or even a Turismo Veloce could also be introduced. With MV Agusta now owning 100 percent of the MV Agusta Motor S.p.A. shares, the company will concentrate on developing the new engine.
MV Agusta will now focus on strengthening its position in the premium sportbike market. The development of an all-new engine is a major investment for the company with several new products in the pipeline.
