Anti-lock Braking System — Continue To Grow Without Locking The Wheels!

By Sukesh

Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), in the modern motorcycling world, is becoming an integrated part rather than an optional accessory. According to a report prepared after extensive research, the ABS market is going to grow by CAGR of 29.62 percent in the period of 2016 to 2020. Reports also deal with the main brands which make ABS.

The evolution of technology in the world of ABS has led to its popularity, especially in motorcycle world. The very first ABS for a motorcycle was developed by BMW in 1998 for its K100 bike. Then, other companies such as Honda and Suzuki did the same.

Bosch is one of the leaders in the ABS market. Its has done extensive work and developed ABS for almost every motorcycle. It all began in 1995 when Bosch developed its first ABS, 2L 1 which weighed 9.92 pounds. The later versions of ABS were based on same model, but the weight and the cost grew up, so it was only limited to high end motorcycles.

Report suggests that one of the main reason for this growth is, bikes are becoming more of electric components, and demand for more powerful motorcycles is on next level. The development of one part leads to another, as the rider is getting more knowledged about ride quality and safety, so technology will improve.

Reports also indicate that in India, to cut the costs of motorcycle ABS, mechanically operated ABS has been used, so for Indian market it will be a big hurdle. India is known for its innovative ways of cutting costs. It's known as Mechanical ABS. It does the same operation as the electronic one, preventing the wheels of a motorcycle from locking. It can also be equipped in both mechanical and hydraulic braking lines.
