Unveiled today at an event held in Mumbai, Suzuki Motorcycles India revealed its new 150cc segment motorcycle in India. Named Gixxer, the cover was pulled off the new motorcycle by brand ambassador Salman Khan.
The Suzuki GS150R has been around for sometime now, but the non-aggressive styling has failed to take off in the presence of tough competition from the likes of Yamaha FZ and Bajaj Pulsar. The Suzuki Gixxer, meanwhile will be universally accepted as aggressive and an attractive looking modern motorcycle.
While there is not much in the form of technical details, which will only be revealed upon launch in July, we have images to show you and a few observations to share from our initial look at the bike.
Suzuki is quite determined about taking on the Yamaha FZ and at the same time, other popular 150cc segment motorcycles. To do so Suzuki will primarily rely on two things - the Gixxer's admittedly attractive styling and a price tag that's lower in comparison to competitors.
A few key features that are worth mentioning are the rear mono shock and a thick tubeless rear tyre that is the same size as the Yamaha FZ's.
The seating is continuous, but the tail end of the Gixxer looks sleek and stylish. Another key design feature that stands out is a la Kawasaki dual outlet exhaust can. The front end of the bike reminds us of the Pulsar 200NS.
All we know about the engine at this point in time is that it is a 155cc unit and features the new Suzuki Eco Performance (SEP) tech, a technology that improves mileage by minimising mechanical lose in the engine.
Suzuki Gixxer will be priced much lower than similarly specced competition and this is possible because the bike incorporates a few cost saying measures in its build. Such as the rear foot rest, which is not bolted, but welded to the frame.
Suzuki claims the Gixxer's chassis has been developed by the same engineers who have developed the GSX-R liter class sports bike. The company also stated that the instrument console on the 155cc motorcycle has elements that are influenced by the Hayabusa, though we did not notice any resemblance.
Lastly, as a safety feature the Gixxer's engine cannot be started when the bike is in neutral until the clutch lever is applied. Looking at these images tell us whether or not you like the upcoming Suzuki Gixxer.
