In two months time, an Ahmedabad based electric vehicle company called Morello Yamasaki will come out with an electric scooter for women, called Nirbhaya electric scooters, named after the unfortunate brave girl of the December 2012 Delhi gang-rape incident.
The company is a joint venture of a Mumbai based Arya Group and Japan's Yamasaki Motors. This scooter will hit the market in two months time and will be priced at INR 35,000 and the company will offer an additional 10 percent discount for women.

This scooter will be equipped with a built in safety system that will keep the family members informed about the rider's location at the press of a button.
The GPRS enabled electric scooter can be connected to a smartphone through an application. At the push of a button, it will give the exact location of the user to family members whose numbers are fed into the vehicles safety system. The scooter will communicate and send signals every two or three minutes.
Rajit R Arya, the CEO of Morello Yamasaki says that this product will have demand with women specially in regards to safety.
These scooters are low speed electric scooters which have a top speed of just 25 km/h, and a drivers license is not required to ride one of them around.
The company, Morello Yamasaki only produces about 10 percent of the electric scooter components and the rest is imported from the company in Japan.
The company has plans to invest around INR 155 crore to open a new plant near Ahmedabad in the next two years. Arya says that they already have the land required in possession and the plant will be operational in 18 to 24 months.
