Red Bull India had earlier this week announced the launch of the Red Bull Kart Fight, a kart racing competition to help find the fastest amateur kart racer in India. 18 July was when the first edition of the competition was scheduled to begin.

The event was held at Smaash, located in Lower Parel with quite a few media houses in attendance. India's first female driver to race in the JK Tyre National racing Championship's Euro Class, Mira Erda was present at the event to support the participants.

The event in Mumbai was the first in a series of qualifiers, and there will be another qualifying round held at Gurgaon. The qualifiers will be held till september, after which there will be a national final held, which might be in Bangalore, since the Red Bull website's events page shows Meco Kartopia, Bangalore.

A total of 20 racers will compete in the National Finals; top-3 for each of the three months from Mumbai and Gurgaon, plus single wild card entries from each city.

Participating in the competition is fairly simple, and anyone older than 16 years can register at the venue itself. The series allows amateur kart racers in India to display their racing skills on the track and lets leisure karters experience professional karting while nurturing their talent and having fun at the same time.

The winner of the National finals will get the opportunity to watch the final race of the 2017 Formula 1 World Championship scheduled to be held at the Yas Marina Circuit in Abu Dhabi on 26 November, 2017.

DriveSpark Thinks!

It is pleasing to see efforts toward encouraging motorsports at the grassroot level. Force India had done spring similar by introducing the One From A Billion Hunt a few years ago. As a result of that, we see Arjun Maini, the competition's winner in 2011 as the development driver at Haas F1 today. We hope the Red Bull Kart Fight would help some racer reach that level some day.
