Pune To Make Electric Cars By 2030 — Start Of EV Era In India?

The Pune Government has asked the Indian automotive manufacturers to make new electric vehicles. In addition to this, Pune is planning to build their own electric mobility solutions.
The automotive industry, however, demands a written commitment from the government to go forward with the electrification plan.
They need to make sure that once they start working on it, the government shouldn't make any abrupt changes to policies that might affect the production.
Experts suggest that buses, trucks and rickshaws should be mandatorily made an EV, while private cars and two-wheelers should be allowed to run on petrol/diesel.
An OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) in Pune, has already implemented EVs in the Katraj zoo. Reports also say that Pune-based OEMs are developing two-wheelers and even buses, that run on electric power. As for other manufacturers (Outside Pune, but Indian), the government will supply R&D centres for them.
ARAI (Automotive Research Association of India) has also supported this move, and they are trying to contribute an ‘e-mobility centre' for uplifting startups in this sector. The basic plan is to re-engineer vehicles in the long-run and develop lighter chassis in conjunction with electric motors.
Rapid electric mobilisation needs the right infrastructure to support it. Hence, the Pune Government is also trying to provide business opportunities by encouraging private firms to set up charging points.
