Ken Block's Electric Audi S1 Hoonitron To Make Public Debut At Monterey Car Week
Ken Block's Audi S1 Hoonitron is set to make its public debut at the Monterey Car Week later this month.
Ken Block's Audi S1 Hoonitron is set to make its public debut at the Monterey Car Week later this month. Block and Audi had revealed the car to the world back in December, but Monterey Car week will mark the first time the drift machine will be shown to the public.
Ken Block will pull the covers publicly of his new drift machine - officially dubbed the Audi S1 e-tron quattro Hoonitron - at California's Laguna Seca Raceway during the annual Monterey Car Week celebration which kicks off on the 17th of August. The drift machine will be making its first foray into North America at the event and this will be the first time the public will actually see it since its debut in December at Audi HQ.
Ken Block's new Hoonitron will make its public debut alongside the legendary car that inspired it - the Audi Sport quattro S1 - specifically Walter Rohrl's 1987 Pikes Peak winner. Rohrl's time of 10 minutes and 48 seconds in the Audi Sport quattro S1 is a record that will never be broken as it was the last time the legendary hill climb was run on a full dirt setup - the hill climb route is now fully tarmacked.
Hopefully, the debut at Laguna Seca will also be the first time we get an actual power and torque figure for Block's first foray into electric cars for his Gymkhana series. The Audi S1 e-tron quattro Hoonitron will make its video debut in the next installment of the Gymkhana series which will be called "Electrikhana."
Block started his Gymkhana series in a Subaru before shifting to Ford (remember the bonkers Hoonicorn Mustang) before he took a break from the series the last time it came out in 2020. Block's good friend and fellow tyre shredder took over drifting duties for Gymkhana 2020, the 11th installation of the series. With the Hoonitron, Block will return to his tyre shredding ways as the man behind the wheel in the upcoming "Electrikhana", which is expected to arrive by the end of the year.
Not much is known about the Audi S1 e-tron quattro Hoonitron's powertrain except for the fact that it features a dual-motor all-wheel drive setup.
The car itself is inspired by the Sport quattro rally car and the massive wings at both the front and rear along with the chunky wheelarches are a direct reminder of the legendary car from Audi's past.
Thoughts About Ken Block's Audi S1 Hoonitron
Ken Block confirmed his switch to electric power for the Gymkhana series with the Audi S1 Hoonitron at the end of last year and with the car set to make its public debut, we should hopefully get some actual figures for the beast. However, no matter what power the electric Hoonitron makes, we are sure it will drift when Kenny from the Block is at the helm.
