How To Wash A Car - Beginner Level
If you are looking for this article, you probably are a first-time car buyer. Whether you bought a new car or used one, these simple steps will ensure that your car is cleaned well without causing any damage.
It is worth mentioning that washing a car without giving any heed can cause damage to the car paint. Moreover, in this article, we will be focusing on the exterior bits.
Before you start, you will be needing two buckets, a hose, wash mitts, tyre brush, car wash shampoo, two or three microfiber towels, car wax, an applicator sponge and a tap with ample water supply.
Park The Car In Shade Before Washing
It is very essential to park the car in shade for washing as premature drying can lead to water evaporating from the surface and creating splotches on the surface.
Preparing
The
Car
Pull the windshield wipers away from the windshield until they click. It also worth mentioning that it is very important that you close windows, doors and sunroof before washing your car. Now, keep everything nearby and also fill the two buckets with water.
Step 1
Use the hose to hose off the car in order to loosen the dirt accumulated on the surface. If you have a pressure washer, keep it aside as pressurised water can sometimes rub the grit over the surface and cause microscopic scratches to the clear coat.
Moreover, Keep in mind to start from the top and always aim the hose at a downward angle. Also, you can use a pressure washer to remove dirt from wheel arches.
Step 2
Start washing from the wheels as these are likely to be the dirtiest part. Now, apply a small amount of car shampoo on the wheel brush and brush every nook and corner in the wheel, or you can also use a wash mitt (If dirt is thick, then a tyre brush is much more suitable).
Step
3
After washing the wheels, pour the recommended amount of car shampoo into one of the buckets filled with water.
Step 4
Start washing from the top and in segments. This will make your lot more efficient. Moreover, dip the wash mitt in the bucket with water to clean the dirt accumulated in the wash mitt.
It is very important to keep the wash mitt clean as dirt in the wash mitt can cause scratches while cleaning. If the water in the bucket gets dirty, change the water immediately. Also, it is important to keep the car wet during the car wash.
Step
5
After washing the car, use a microfiber cloth to wipe the car dry. Preferably use microfiber towels above 1000GSM as just one towel will be more than enough to wipe an entire hatchback dry.
Step 6
Now use an applicator sponge to gently apply car wax all over the car and also follow a circular motion while applying the car wax. Also, do not apply wax on glass surfaces.
Step
7
After applying the wax, wait for a few minutes and wipe the wax using a clean microfiber towel. As always, start from the top.
Thoughts About Washing Car
Applying a layer of wax after each wash not only adds gloss to the car, but it will also avoid dirt accumulation. This process also helps while washing the car next time as it will be easier to remove the dirt from the surface.
