Honda Jet Makes Maiden Flight; Waiting For US Final Approval
Honda Jet made its first maiden flight from Sendai to Tokyo on Thursday. The company is now in talks to obtain final approval from the US Federal Aviation Administration to start deliveries for customers in the US.
After being developed for nearly 30 years, Honda, which is known for its cars and motorcycles has now joined the aviation industry with the Honda Jet.
The Japanese carmaker, recently revamped its management, entered Formula One and also introduced a sports mini car in Japan. The company's President, Takanobu Ito will step down in June this year, after six years of heading the company.
Honda has already received 100 orders for its Honda Jet and the company may consider selling the Jet in Japan as well if the demand is good.
The Jet has many design advancements compared to regular jets and one important feature that makes it stand out from the rest is the engines, which are mounted on top of the wings to help increase fuel efficiency by 15 percent.
The Honda Jet has 20 percent more room compared to a similar sized jet and has a cruising speed of 778 km/h.
