Here’s How You Can Fix Car Glass Scratches
Windshield is a very important part of a car and many people fail to understand the role it plays in automobile safety. In addition to that, many people do not even know how to properly take care of the windshield in their car.
While many people consider windshields as just a simple piece of curved glass, in reality, a windshield is much more than just a "simple curved glass" as a lot of engineering has gone into the windshield to make it safer.
Apart from that, windshields have undergone many evolutions as technology advanced over the years. Moreover, each evolution has made the windshields safer for usage.
At present, car glasses are made of laminated glass consisting of three layers. The middle layer is vinyl that has been sandwiched between two layers of glass and these layers are put together after being treated under extreme heat and pressure inside an industrial oven.
Thanks to lack of knowledge on how to maintain car glass, they can easily get scratched after some time. However, it is the scratches on the windshield that are dangerous as they can interfere with the lights coming from the oncoming traffic. Apart from that, old windshield wipers can also scratch the surface of the windshield.
In addition to that, scratches on the windshield can also hold a very tiny amount of water during rain and this can greatly hamper your vision of the road during heavy downpours.
Since windshields can be expensive, instead of replacing the old windshield, a few simple procedures can reduce the scratches to a more than acceptable level. This simple procedure can be done at home itself and do not require any professional mechanic.
Toothpaste Method
For very small scratches on the windshield or side window glasses, using white, non-gel toothpaste can have astonishing results. For this, apply toothpaste on an applicator or microfiber cloth and gently rub the paste on the affected area in a circular motion.
After applying the toothpaste in the above-mentioned way, wipe the toothpaste off the affected area with a clean cloth.
Nail Polish Method
The next method involves using clear nail polish. In this method, apply one layer of clear nail polish directly on the surface of the affected area and wait till it dries completely (usually 30 minutes is enough). Now, just wipe the affected area with a clean dry cloth.
Glass Repair Kit Method
The name itself suggests that the product is made for such instances. The glass repair kit is easily accessible at most car accessory shops. The kit contains a glass removal compound that you need to apply to the affected area.
The cerum oxide in the glass removal compound enters into a chemical reaction with the glass in the affected area and makes the scratch look seamless and unaffected.
Thoughts About Glass Scratch Removal
Car glasses are not only very expensive but they also play a vital role in automobile safety. So, it is necessary to understand how to take care of automobile glasses and repair if necessary.
