Vehicles Without A Valid PUC Certificate Will Not Get Fuel As Per This New Rule: Here Are More Details
The Delhi government is all set to implement a new rule to help monitor and regulate vehicular pollution. Owners of all vehicles will be required to furnish the PUC (Pollution Under Control) certificate in order to buy fuel. Also, stringent action will be taken against those who are found to be riding/driving without the PUC certificate.
Delhi-NCR is one of the most populated regions in the country and hence, it is only natural for the number of vehicles to be rather high. As a result, pollution is high in the region. The Delhi government and transportation departments have in the past taken several initiatives to bring vehicular pollution under control, and now the government is planning to bring a new plan into action.
According to the Delhi Transport Department, over 17 lakh vehicles ply on the city's roads without a valid PUC certificate. Hence, it is impossible to keep track of just how much these vehicles pollute the environment. In order to make sure the pollution is kept under control, a valid PUC certificate is necessary.
Now, with the arrival of the new rule, all vehicle owners in Delhi will be forced to get a PUC certificate. The Environment minister for Delhi, Gopal Rai said, all vehicle owners in Delhi will have to compulsorily carry Pollution Under Control certificates for buying fuel at petrol pumps from October 25.
In addition, those found without a valid PUC certificate will face imprisonment of upto 6 months or a fine of Rs 10,000. This decision was taken at a meeting of officials from the environment, transport, and traffic departments. The methods to implement the plan too were discussed during the same meeting. This is a part of the latest anti-air pollution measures that the government is set to take.
The Delhi government has also launched its 24x7 war room to combat pollution and to ensure proper implementation of the winter plan. All departments of the Delhi government have been asked to be prepared for the implementation of the plan against pollution.
Thoughts On Delhi Government Mandating PUC Certificate For Purchase Of Fuel
The easiest way to keep the PUC valid for all vehicles plying on the road is to make sure it is checked before fuel is dispensed. With this logic, the new Delhi government plan is excellent. However, the success of this plan depends on how diligent the fuel pump attenders are, in doing their duty.
