The Dassault Falcon 10X has just been unveiled. French aviation giant Dassault has revealed its latest private aircraft named the Falcon 10X. It is by far the largest, fastest, most-luxurious, and most-capable private aircraft produced by Dassault. The Dassault Falcon 10X is priced at around $75 million and is expected to enter service by 2025.
The private aircraft/business jet market is one that has only grown in the last few decades. Manufacturers like Bombardier, Gulfstream, Learjet and Dassault have been fighting it out in the market to sell more products. Along with the brands, the aircraft too have grown in their capabilities, in size and in luxury.
In recent years, Bombardier and Gulfstream both have dominated the ultra-long range business jet segment. Bombardier has the Global 7500 which is claimed to have a range of around 7,700 nautical miles (14,260 kilometres). The Gulfstream G700 on the other hand has a claimed range of around 7,500 nautical miles (13,890 kilometres).
Dassault had fallen behind in this segment as its Falcon 8X jet had a range of around 6,450 nautical miles (11,945 kilometres). Dassault has now announced the arrival of the Falcon 10X and is back in the competition with its 7,500 nautical miles (13,890 kilometres) range.
The Dassault Falcon 10X is one of the most advanced business jets out there. It gets a completely digital cockpit. It features the Honeywell Aerospace Primus Epic avionics suite combined with multiple touchscreens. It brings with it functions like synthetic vision, airport moving maps, runway overrun awareness system, etc.
The flight computers project information on four high-definition displays. Both pilots can use the touchscreen at the same time thanks to the multi-touch functionality. Some of the technology on the Dassault Falcon 10X has been taken from the Dassault Rafale fighter jet as well.
The Dassault Rafale has been regularly creating headlines for a few years now. It is the Indian Air Force's newest aircraft acquisition and one of the most-advanced fighter jets in the world. In the Rafale, the thrust of the two engines is controlled by one single lever despite the aircraft having two engines.
This single throttle lever is also seen on the Dassault Falcon 10X. It also gets heads-up displays and sideboard-mounted sticks instead of traditional control yokes. The aircraft also gets fly-by-wire technology. The seats in the cockpit are designed to lay flat to form a bed. This feature will be useful in the future for either one of the pilots to rest on long-haul flights.
The Dassault Falcon 10X is powered by two Rolls-Royce Pearl 10X engines. Each of the rear-mounted engines offer a thrust output of more than 18,000 pound force. This enables the Falcon 10X to have a top speed of around Mach .925 (1,142km/h).
The Dassault Falcon 10X is kept in the air by swept-back carbon-fiber wings. This allows it to be smoother and more stable at higher speeds. The wing design makes a big difference to the high-speed cruise capabilities of the aircraft.
As aforementioned, the Dassault Falcon 10X is the widest business jet in its segment. It measures in at nine feet and one inch while its closest rivals max out at eight feet and two inches. This extra-wide cabin has allowed Dassault to work on some premium and luxurious interiors.
The cabin of the Dassault Falcon 10X is divided into four areas. The living area is spacious and seats get their individual tray tables. The positioning of the seats is customisable and they can be moved around easily. The aircraft also features a dining and conference area.
Next to the galley are a couple of seats that can double up as a crew rest area. The Dassault Falcon 10X is probably the only business jet which has two windows positioned to illuminate the galley area too.
At the rear of the Falcon 10X is a bedroom with a proper queen-size bed. It even gets a bathroom with a walk-in shower. There are 19 windows on both sides of the aircraft, which means there is more than enough natural light coming in.
The humidity and cabin pressure levels can be adjusted to be the same between 3,000 feet and 41,000 feet. This will help the passenger stay fresh and relaxed and minimises the effects of jet lag.
Thoughts On Dassault Falcon 10X Being Revealed
With the facilities offered by the Dassault Falcon 10X, the occupants can travel to any corner of the world in utmost comfort. It only further helps that the jet is the largest in its segment and comes with top-shelf equipment. Given the liking for the brand, we might just see the Dassault Falcon 10X being bought by some of the wealthiest people in India.
