MS Dhoni Buys A Land Rover Series 3 Vintage SUV: BBT Online Auction
MS Dhoni just bought a 1971 Land Rover Series 3 Station Wagon in an online auction organised by renowned pre-owned premium car seller, Big Boy Toyz (BBT).
With this purchase, MS Dhoni will be adding one more iconic car to his extensive collection of cars and motorcycles in his garage.
Though the Land Rover Series 3 is one of the most popular cars in the world with more than 4 lakh units made between 1971 and 1985, it is now a rare find. Especially, the ones that have been restored to their original glory.
During that time, the Land Rover Series 3 was available in three different body styles - 2 door, 2-door pickup truck and 4-door station wagon.
Engine options include a 2.25-litre inline four cylinder petrol engine with 72.41bhp, a 2.25-litre inline four cylinder diesel engine with 61.68bhp, a larger 85.82bhp 2.6-litre inline six cylinder petrol engine, and a slightly more potent 3.5-litre V8 petrol engine with 91.18bhp.
Since it was the 1970s, the sole gearbox option available was the 4-speed manual transmission with a 2-speed transfer gearbox.
Speaking about this particular model purchased by MS Dhoni, it is a 4-door station wagon body styled Land Rover Series 3 and is a very rare model in India. However, the engine specification of the model is yet to be known.
From the pictures, it looks like the rare vintage model has been painstakingly restored to its original form.
The beautifully restored Land Rover Series 3 bought by Dhoni has a dual-tone paint scheme where the roof and the front windshield is finished in white and the rest of the body finished in what looks like mustard yellow.
However, elements such as the front grille and bumpers are finished in silver, whereas the door mirrors and the door handles are finished in black. This creates a nice contrast and the vehicle looks more like a restoration project done by the parent company itself.
Now speaking about the online auction, renowned pre-owned premium car seller, Big Boy Toyz (BBT) recently began the online auction of vintage cars on its platform.
This particular online auction saw 19 vintage cars including vintage cars from Rolls Royce, Austin, Buicks, Chevrolets, Volkswagen and more.
According to Big Boy Toyz, the online auction for vintage cars started with Volkswagen Beetle for which the bidding started at Rs 1 lakh and went up to Rs 25 lakh.
Making its foray into the vintage and classic cars segment, BBT wants to make it Rs 100 crore vertical in the coming years. According to the company, the next auction is scheduled to take place in February 2022.
Thoughts About MS Dhoni's Land Rover Series 3 SUV & Big Boy Toyz (BBT)
MS Dhoni purchasing the Land Rover Series 3 once again shows that the world cup winning Indian captain has a great taste for his cars and the beautifully restored Land Rover Series 3 will soon call Ranchi as its home.
Moreover, with the new vintage and classic car business, Big Boy Toyz is aiming to make it a Rs 100 Crore business vertical.
