Apple iPhone 14 & Apple Watch 8 Can Make Emergency Calls In A Car Crash: Here’s How
The new Apple iPhone and Apple Watch can now make an emergency call in the event of a car crash. This new feature seems very useful in improving road safety and is available on the new-generation Apple devices. These features were revealed at the launch of the new iPhone 14 and Apple Watch.
Apple is one of the most influential tech brands in the world. It is also one of those brands that people all over the world aspire to own a product of. Apple first launched the iPhone in January 2007. In the last 15 years, the iPhone has been updated 13 times and the latest iPhone was revealed on 07 September 2022.
The Apple Watch on the other hand was one of the first mainstream smartwatches in the Global market that came with lots of features. Now, the latest generation Apple Watch gets more technology than ever before, including this nifty emergency calling feature.
To detect a crash more accurately, the Apple iPhone 14 will use the inbuilt barometer to detect cabin pressure changes while the GPS will be used to detect a drastic change in speed with the car coming to a sudden halt after the crash. The microphone will be used to detect loud noises that are akin to the noises experienced during a car crash.
According to the brand, the new Apple Watch comes with the most sensitive and dynamic accelerometer in the segment and this will be combined with the inbuilt gyroscope to detect a crash. The algorithm for the software has been written after monitoring and collecting data from millions of hours of real-world driving and thousands of crashes.
The emergency calling feature is available on the whole iPhone 14 range including the iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Plus, iPhone 14 Pro, and iPhone 14 Pro Max and the Apple Watch Series 8, Apple Watch SE and Apple Watch Ultra.
The way this works is pretty simple. Upon detecting a crash, a notification will pop up on the iPhone as well as the Apple Watch. If the user doesn't respond to the notification within 10 seconds, the iPhone will make the call to the emergency services and emergency contacts saved on the phone.
Thoughts On Apple iPhone 14 & Apple Watch Series 8 Emergency Calling Feature
Technology is certainly making the world a safer place and features like emergency calling on the new iPhone will make life a whole lot better for its users. However, the question does arise, how much of our travel and day-to-day activities is monitored by tech brands? Is it worth letting them monitor so much of our private data? The answer to this question though, is nowhere to be found.
