The Maruti Suzuki carries the silhouette of an SUV and yet is classified as a hatchback. It is a tallboy and as a result offers more space on the inside. Up front, are the large headlamps with LED projectors inside them, flanking a sleek grille. The front grille comes with chrome accents surrounding the entire grille as well as the headlamp units.
The sharp shoulder lines, flared wheel arches, and 15-inch alloy wheels add to design and styling of the Maruti Suzuki Ignis. At the rear, the Ignis features a love-it-or-hate-it design. It gets a sloping windshield, wrap-around tail lights, and thick-black cladding with reflectors.
Inside, the Maruti Suzuki Ignis continues to carry forward the same sporty design. The dual-tone dashboard, with the floating central display adds to the look and feel of the interiors. The Maruti Suzuki Ignis also comes with contrasting accents, which adds to the sporty character.
The Maruti Suzuki Ignis is powered by a naturally-aspirated petrol engine. It is the only engine option available with the hatchback. It is a 1.2-litre VVT unit producing 81.8bhp at 6,000rpm and 113Nm at 4,200rpm. The engine can be paired with either a 5-speed manual gearbox or a 5-speed AMT unit.
The Maruti Suzuki Ignis is a quirky little hatchback that offers a fun-to-drive experience. The engine offers decent performance, especially in the low and mid-range. The Ignis also weighs less, which further helps in improving performance. The suspension has been set up well, absorbing most road undulations.
Braking is handled by discs at the front and drum at the rear. However, due to the low weight of the hatchback, the brakes feel sufficient, with little to no hesitancy to stop even under hard braking. The small turning radius, light clutch, and steering further improve the Ignis’ ability to tackle city traffic with ease. The car feels stable on the highway as well, however, push it hard and the car does feel a bit stressed at higher revs.
The Maruti Suzuki Ignis comes with a fairly small 32-litre fuel tank capacity. The Ignis being available in only a petrol version offers an ARAI-certified fuel efficiency figure of 20.89km/l. This is the standard mileage figure for both the manual and AGS-equipped versions of the Ignis hatchback.
The Maruti Suzuki Ignis is part of the brand`s premium dealership NEXA dealerships. Although the Ignis is a small hatchback, it comes with a fairly long list of features and equipment. Some of the standard features seen on the Maruti Suzuki Ignis include body coloured ORVMs and door handles, ORVMs with integrated turn indicators, puddle lamps, side mouldings, SmartPlay infotainment system, steering mounted audio control, push start/stop, keyless entry, electrically adjustable and foldable ORVMs, night/day IRVMs, 60:40 rear split seats and power windows.
The Maruti Suzuki Ignis also gets lots of safety features including dual front airbags, ABS with EBD, safety alarm system, immobiliser, seat-belt reminder, high-speed warning system, reverse parking sensors, speed-sensing auto door-locking, and key reminder among others.
The Maruti Suzuki Ignis is a quirky hatchback from Maruti Suzuki that offers a fun-to-drive experience. It comes with a peppy engine and gearbox combination. Sold exclusively through NEXA, the hatchback feels premium even in terms of ownership. However, it is still due for an update which is expected to arrive soon.
