The Jeep Compass is one of the most premium offerings in India’s mid-size SUV segment. The Compass SUV comes with a host of features and equipment, along with powerful engine option to justify its high pricing.
In terms of design, the Jeep Compass comes with projector headlamps at the front, with integrated LED DRLs. the fog lamps are placed below on the bumper which also houses a large central air intake and silver scuff plates. The front grille is sleek with Jeep’s signature vertical slats, with chrome strips.
Moving to the side and rear profile, the Jeep Compass comes with a clean and simplistic design. The side profile features subtle character lines, along with 17-inch dual-tone alloy wheels, adding to the premium yet rugged nature of the SUV.
The rear profile, on the other hand, comes with a sleek looking LED taillights and the Jeep badging at the centre of the boot lid. The rear bumpers also features scuff plates, along with reflectors at either end.
Moving inside, the Jeep Compass comes with a dual-tone cabin of Black/beige. The dashboard offers soft-touch materials all around, giving the SUV a premium feel. The seats are covered in leather upholstery, while the centre console comes with a large infotainment display in gloss black finish; adding to the premium nature.
The Jeep Compass is available in a range of two engine options: a 2.0-litre diesel producing 170bhp and 350Nm of torque and a 1.4-litre petrol churning out 160bhp and 250Nm of torque. Both engines come mated to a standard six-speed manual gearbox. The diesel engine further comes with the optional seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission as well.
Both engine options on the Jeep Compass though offer good performance. There is a slight bit of lag right until the 2000rpm mark, however cross that and the engine offer a surge in power pulling the SUV quickly forward.
The engine does feel refined, however the smaller 1.4-litre petrol could have been more punchy. The power offered from the petrol engine does come in a bit late, however it does offer a good mid-range making it a comfortable and easy cruiser on the highways.
The diesel also offers similar performance and handling characteristics, maybe even slightly better. The 350Nm of torque is enough to offer good level of pull at any speed. The six-speed manual is smooth with gearshifts falling into place with ease. The DCT transmission is excellent, with good smooth gearshifts, without any lag offering good support to the engine.
The suspension on the Jeep Compass is soft, allowing it to float over any and all road undulations without breaking a sweat. Braking is pretty impressive as well, with good amount of bite offering enough confidence on the highway and under hard braking.
The Jeep Compass is said to offer an ARAI-certified mileage figure of roughly 17.10km/l for the 4x2 variant while the top-spec 4x4 spec offers a fuel efficiency figure of 16.30km/l; again ARAI-certified.
The Jeep Compass comes with a host of features and equipment on offer. This includes LED headlamps, LED DRLs and LED taillights and fog lamps. It also comes with silver scuff plates, stylish dual-tone alloy wheels and chrome strips all along; adding to the premiumness.
Inside, the Jeep Compass comes with a large 8.4-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, dual-tone cabin with premium leather upholstery for the seats and the side door panels. This includes six airbags, ABS with EBD, electronic parking brake, electronic stability control, reverse parking camera, high-speed warning, seat-belt reminder for the front passengers, pedestrian protection and others.
